One of corries longest residents Gail Macintyre could be killed off!
Secret plans have been drawn up by the soap’s bosses to write her out of the show as bosses battle to find exceptional storylines to fight eastenders.
Coronation Street producer Jane McNaught is said to be livid over the story leaking out, so will Gail be saved from the chop?
Sources say that McNaught had threatend to abandon the plotline if it was leaked to the public at such an early stage.
Helen Worth 50, has played Gail for a whopping 26yrs has gone from being a teenager on the show, to a grandmother with 3 adult children of her own.
Last month, the shows executives had a meeting and decided that her character had run its course.
Seen as a boring character by some, its thought that rather than see Gail get back together with a past love like Martin Platt, the shock of her leaving would lead to more interest from the public.
The shows top bosses have discussed it with Helen, this storyline is just one of many being discussed for 18mths time.
Killing off a character, especially a long running one such as Gail is an obvious ratings winner.
ITV network executives have warned Coronation Streets’ producers that they must improve storylines if it wants to rival Eastenders, a show that tops ratings on a regular basis.
A Coronation Street spokesman said: ‘I can’t discuss future storylines, but we do regularly explore all kinds of possibilities for the future’.
