Meh, he's an good character, they'd do damage to the show by getting rid of him, he's one of the main backbones of the show, the only other people from the original episodes who are still there are Dennis Tanner and Emily Bishop

..he looks healthy in the photos..it's hard to believe he's 80..bit of a Cliff Richard I guess..I think he's had a lot of sadness in real life too which sometimes takes it's toll..well you can't get to that age and not..he really is the icon of all British soaps..the father figure of all who all who came after..quite a guy is William..may he reign for many more years

I think Deirdre's good, she can be funny when she's not given crap stuff to do with Tracy. I can see her turning into the new Blanche.
But, yeah, just because Roache has been there from the beginning doesn't mean he's anything special. Plenty people stay in the same job for most of their lives, but it's a pity he didn't learn anything acting-wise during his 50 years on the show. He's always hammy.
