An 11-year-old suspected rape victim decided not to go to police because of a storyline in EastEnders in which the victim was not supported, the Old Bailey heard yesterday.
The girl, who was worried about going through a court case, only summoned up the courage to make a complaint years later, it is claimed.
She claims Junior Hall, 41, raped her after she called him 'gay'.

Very sad and worrying,I guess obviously we need to wait for the end of the case but this is the other side of the coin.
Often a storyline in a soap can usually help someone to speak out but this seems on the surface to be one time it helped the person draw back from saying anything.
Awful situation for an 11 year old to be in though.

It's a horrible thing to happen, but 11-year-olds shouldn't be watching EastEnders anyway. If I ever have children, I'd never let them watch it until 13, really.

She reported the rape in 2010 and claimed the attack took place between June 2001 and June 2003 when she was aged eleven or twelve.
As "evidence" for a court case, that's very vague ..... :idc:
Surely her legal team could have managed to narrow down the date ..... :puzzled:

Which storyline is she referring to though?

This is a very good point.
Shocking storyline. I swear, everyday I check the news there is this all over the world. I seriously wonder about the world we live in. Poor wee girl. And bribed with a £20. Honestly...if it's true I hope the animal goes away for a long time...infact. I wouldn't even insult the animal, they'd likely have better morals. Monster.

That's what I was thinking...only thing I can think of around that time would be Trevor raping Mo storyline?

That storyline was over 10 years ago now though so the girl wouldn't have even been 1.

Tthat storyline was in the early 2000's though, I think. She said it took place around June 2001-2003.
Even at that...I'm now thinking, was there an issue with Mo not being supported? I can only vaguely remember it.

I think so :
http://eastenders.wikia.com/wiki/Little_Mo_Mitchell
The first love of Little Mo's life was Trevor Morgan. Their marriage was rocky, due to his severe mood swings and physical and emotional violence. He repeatedly manipulated her so she couldn't bring herself to leave, turning on the charm after beating her to convince her that they loved each other. Trevor isolated her from her family, who despised him. She always forgave him and even agreed to start a family until he raped her for buying a hat to wear to her sister Lynne Hobbs' wedding, after he had forbidden her to go. Realising she couldn't bring a child up in that environment, Mo went back on the pill. Mo finally left after discovering that Trevor had deleted a message from Zoe Slater, who had run away from home. On New Year's Eve 2001, timid 'doormat' Little Mo attacked Trevor, hitting him repeatedly with an iron when he attacked her. She went home, thinking he was dead but when she and her sisters returned to the Fowler house, he was gone. Mo was prosecuted and found guilty of attempted murder but was released after Trevor did a deal with the Slaters - he wouldn't give evidence against Mo if Kat didn't press charges for him assaulting her.
I don't watch Eastenders so I have no idea how the storyline fits in with the victim's experience .....

Probably the Kat/Zoe stuff in October 2001. In an argument at Lynne's hen do, on the streets Kat revealed to Zoe that she's her mother and Harry raped her at 6 years old and had gotten away with it until then. Either that or the Little Mo/Trevor stuff. I suggest you watch the videos I'm about to give you for a full explanation. The show was really good back then. :)

No, she was 11/12 at the time.

The victim is about 21 now.

The girl is in her earley twenties. The incident happened in 2003/2004 when she was 11-ish.

It can't be the incident Omah posted, that was when she hit him with an iron. But, yeah, I remember Mo's rape storyline now so that must be it.
Edit - Hang on, just re-read. Yes, it's the Kat/Zoe story. I remember no one believed her because it was a family member that raped her. God, Eastenders is so convoluted.

Trevor raping Mo happened on 4 December 2001 and the incident where Mo hit Trevor with an iron was on 31 December 2001/1 January 2002, so it was a build up of all the abuse and most recently (at the time) the rape. And then further in 2002 she told Kat and Donna about it and Little Mo stupidly admitted to hitting Trevor with an iron (to the court, despite everyone telling her not to) and she got locked up...etc.
Ah, good times. I'd relive it all tomorrow if I got the chance. I was only about 8/9issh at the time but I remember it like it was yesterday. :(
But yeah it's either one of those storylines.

 My bad. Shouldn't have skim read the article. Yeah, it probably was that storyline then. Poor girl.
To be fair, it could be either.
To be honest, I don't think it is ..... if Eastenders fans can't remember a storyline that allegedly influenced a rape victim, then it's possible that the alleged storyline doesn't exit .....
It may be that the victim's memory is "faulty" or even that the allegation is concocted, but, if the incident did happen, her legal team must have had time to iron out any discrepancies .....

Yeah, the storylines at the time were extremely complex and quite difficult to follow, as you say. It was as if one massive storyline led into other (high key) storylines. Lol.

She got raped by two people: the first one was her abusive husband Trevor, who raped her in December 2001 (as well as his general abuse towards Mo, such as burning her hand with an iron) and again two years later in December 2003 by the person you're describing ('the stranger'). Here's the episode if that will help:

His name was Gratham and it happened on 9 December 2003.

Well, yeah, but to a much lesser extent. EastEnders started going down the pan quite a lot in 2003. It was a good year, but not as good as the years before. Mo should've been a lot more savvy than that, considering what happened with Trevor and you think she'd have learnt her lesson. I remember she always let people push her about and all.
