Digital Spy can today (August 3) reveal the first pictures of Kellie Shirley back on set at EastEnders.

The actress recently reprised her role as Shirley Carter's daughter Carly Wicks for two episodes, which are expected to air in September.

Although exact details of Carly's return storyline are currently being kept under wraps, it is understood that viewers will see her back in Walford to visit Shirley (Linda Henry) after the truth is finally revealed about Heather Trott's murder.

Speaking of her return appearance, Kellie Shirley commented: "Having left EastEnders in 2008, it's flattering to be asked to return as Carly for this particular storyline.

"Carly is coming back slightly older, wiser and independent, although she still needs and loves her mum. The Shirley/Carly dynamic is fun to play and is as volatile as ever."

She added: "I loved working with Linda, as well as Diane Parish and Steve McFadden again."

Carly has recently been mentioned on screen with the news that she has given birth. Although Shirley has tried to reach out to her daughter, she was rejected by her over the phone last month.

Further heartache lies ahead for Shirley in the coming days as she discovers that Ben Mitchell was responsible for Heather's death, leaving her with a big decision to make.

EastEnders is currently airing on BBC Two due to the Olympics, but is back on BBC One from August 13 in time for Sharon Watts's return and the dramatic conclusion to the Heather story.

Don't see the need tbh. Carly was a pretty crap character overall, who deserved to be binned. Usually when a character's axed it's because they're crap and IMO that was the case with her and Deano.

EastEnders star Steve McFadden has said it only “took seconds” to get back into the old routine with Letitia Dean when she returned to the Square to play Sharon.

Fans will see the pair re-united on August 13 in the first of seven episodes in five days.

McFadden, who plays Phil Mitchell, said: “I’d heard rumours and I was really excited because we’ve got so much history and I knew Linda (Linda Henry, who plays his girlfriend Shirley Carter) was going to have a bit of time out so there was a bit of a crossover and you know you’re going to work with someone else.

“Obviously because I’ve worked with her before I knew what I was going to get so I was excited.

“Letitia is quite a contradiction. She’s quite grand and down to earth at the same time. She’s very showbiz, but she’s very straight at the same time so she’s a lot of fun.

“It took seconds and we were very familiar with each other and it was just the same like before she left. She hasn’t changed at all.”

Viewers will see Sharon return to the Square for the first time in more than six years when she seeks Phil’s help after jilting her groom at the altar.

They will also see Shirley discover the truth behind Heather’s death and take her revenge.

Dean said her character realises there is “still chemistry” with Phil, but ruled out romance with him or “charm personified” Jack Branning.

She said: “He’s funny, he does stuff that makes her laugh, and I think he feels for her a little bit. She really doesn’t have anywhere to go. She’s at a vulnerable point and it’s a case of someone being kind to her. But Sharon’s certainly not looking for a relationship — her son’s a priority, and getting a job, probably.”

So basically Linda Henry aka Shirley Carter is taking a break from EastEnders soon.
