Will never understand that show's success... I don't know anyone (other than Jen) who watches it :suspect:

How can it smash a shows ratings if it's on the same channel?

How can it smash a shows ratings if it's on the same channel?
:suspect: Is that a serious question? Every programme is watched by a different number of viewers and therefore has it's own ratings.

Both shows are doing pretty well. Downton Abbey has become an event viewing, The media loves it and so they create hype with stories about it and stupidly positive reviews which gets people to tune in. People will tune in to see what the hype is about since the media's been reporting about how much it's slaying all over the world.

The X Factor has sucked so far so no wonder it's losing to Downton Abbey, I could imagine the characters being more likeable than this years lot of contestants.

According to Digital Spy's overnights: Yesterday's latest instalment averaged 9.66m (36.9%) for ITV1 in the 9pm hour, before adding 325k (1.8%) on ITV1 +1.

It didn't smash it, it got a few thousand more viewers than The X Factor...the peak for BOTH shows were around 11 million.

You've read the article wrong, if you read it properly it states that Downton Abbey inherited an audience of 12 million viewers from The X Factor last year - Downton Abbey didn't get 12 million...TXF did.

Thats more in line with previous weeks, up a bit though. The xf is down 2m on previous years. I watch DA, got into it in series 2 :spin:
