Do you believe this exists and what are you views on it?

You don't scare me.

Seriously though, I would doubt such a thing existed, in the context of "The often irrational fear of heterosexuals".

I think there can be a dislike towards hetros.

Kinda off topic, but I thought Morgan Freeman's tweet last month was pretty brilliant

I was at college with a woman whose daughter was also a student. She took great pleasure in explaining how her daughter was a lesbian who never went to straight bars, had no straight friends, and made as much effort as she could to avoid straight people. So I guess she could be one?

Oh, I seen it on tumblr a couple of weeks ago and was sure it was real. But now I see the spelling difference.

A fear/dislike to straight people? I doubt it really.

Straight people are deemed to be normal in society if you know what I mean. If it does exist it exists in small minorities probably amongst gay/lesbian people. Unless I've just stated the obvious:shrug:

Edit: in no way do I believe gay people are abnormal.

Yeah I know what you mean, being straight is the norm and they are the dominant sexuality in every country, it's hard to imagine them as a group being discriminated against

But then there's the whole concept of being discriminated against, because you are the majority, which in turn could make the minority envious. Therefore, even though i'm sure it's very rare, I do think heterophobia exists. That being said, it probably doesn't get as extreme as homophobia. Someone can be mildly heterophobic being homosexual just because there is that feeling of difference. It might even be possible for a straight person to be heterophobic - like a gay person can be homophobic.

I'm sure among some strange people it exists, but it must be so rare.

..are you talking a bout a fear of heterosexuality..?

...it wouldn't surprise me..those people are always flaunting it in public...

...disgusting and unnecessary

It's a bit of a stretch to actually believe this would exist as a fear in its own right, Homophobia exists as it is based on fear and prejudice of being different. As Heterosexuality is by far the majority position for most people it is hard to see how a fear of the "normal" could develop.

A dislike of straight people is slightly different and probably is shared by more than a few people in the Gay community.

What Glenn said. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that there are some sexual minority members who don't like "straight" people but they're in a tiny minority and it has far less impact than homophobia.

To say that it can't possibly exist is a bit small minded, that said it's probably such a small thing which is why you never hear about it!

Not sure I agree with that. Just because one group is discriminated against, doesn't mean they wouldn't discriminate against another group. Being a victim doesn't make you virtuous.

I'm sure there are gay people who have issues with heteros, just like there are heterosexuals who have issues with gays. Every minority group reflects society I think.

It probably exists, but seeing as heterosexuality is the norm in society the minority of people that are 'heterophobic' is probably so small that it isn't noticeable.

I see what you're saying but the name's always been a little bit ridiculous. Homophobia and heterophobia do exist but they have nothing to do with phobias...just hatred of someone because of their sexuality...

I think it exists but not many people hold those views imo.

And just like homophobia I think it's disgusting and that people need to grow up that hold those views.

I think they call them phobias because in a way people that are homophobic or hetrophobic are afraid of that sexuality.

The only time I have experienced this is when some mates of mine decide to take me into a gay club/bar (which I would rather not do lol) but to keep the peace I go along with their choice and once inside and on the dance floor it don't take long for a gay bloke to start eyeing us over and I did get approached by one gay bloke and I immediately made it clear that I wasn't interested and said that I am straight. But I did get a dirty look from him as though to say, what am in there for? As if straight people shouldn't be in there which is very wrong.

Me and my lad got turned away from a gay bar once for being straight...was quite irritating and he quite rightly asked the bouncer if it would be ok for us to turn away a gay couple from our bar (well it wasnt our bar, but his dads...same thing really) then our mates who were with us (who are gay...the reason we were out round the gay bars in the first place) joined in and started having a go at the bouncer too saying he was being ridiculous.

Thats been the only problems ever on the gay scene though. Much better night than round the 'straight' bars IMO. You get no trouble or anything and the atmosphere is generally much better.

There was a story a while ago about a popular gay bar in LA that decided to ban hen parties until gay marriage is legal. They used to have a lot of hen parties because they had really hot go-go boys so a lot of women chose it for their hen parties. The owners said that it was offensive to have heterosexuals celebrating a right that gay people don't have.

Do you guys think that was heterophobic?

I can believe that Vicky as once in my early 20's I decided to go with my then-girlfirend's decision to goto a gay bar and I started kissing her at the bar and we was told off by the man behind the bar reminding us that it's a gay bar and obviously could offend gay people, 'what the ******'?? we couldn't believe the cheek? Anyway, we never went there again...

It is true that there is less trouble in gay bars, but that is mainly because girls can relax in a gay bar more, as in straight bars/clubs (especially if you are attractive) you will find yourself being harrassed all night by blokes trying it on with you, and many are that persistant that they will even try it on when you are dancing with your boyfriend or husband which then can lead to punch-up's as they are probably drunk to which makes it worse. I've been there many times and it's always the same story. Does peoples heads in.
