One Direction have been named the most popular X Factor act ever, even eclipsing Leona Lewis.
According to social media data, the boys are the most talked about act to even come from the show.
A survey by media analysts Starcount found that One Direction scored a 117.5 MILLION points in their poll, based on things like twitter mentions, ‘likes’ on Facebook and YouTube/Vevo views.
It was almost four times that of second placed Leona Lewis, with 27.8 million points.
And not far behind Leona, surprisingly, is Cher Lloyd.
Despite only finishing fourth on the show in 2010, Cher has gone on to have success both here in the UK and the States.
Last year’s champions Little Mix had 9.7 million points in fourth place, which bodes well ahead of their debut album release next month.
Amelia Lily, Misha B, Jedward and Rebecca Ferguson were all also in the top 10.
Meanwhile, it’s been claimed that On Direction have made £26.33 million between them since 2010.
The boys have been placed fifth on a list of the UK’s richest teenage celebs, as compiled by heat magazine.
With a new album and tour soon, that number is only sure to rise.
The current series of The X Factor continues this Saturday night with a spooky Halloween themed episode as the remaining ten contestants perform live once again.

Because they are talked about the most does not make them the most popular X Factor act ever, afterall most people on the Internet hate One Direction.

Cher soon to be #2
I would imagine they are tbh.. I'm not a fan, but I do know they are massive in the states which is a big achievement for them imo :)

I can believe that, they are current and have cracked the US and that Harry one is a pleasure to behold:evilgrin:
Couldn't have anything to do with how much social media has come on over the last few years could it

live while we're young single did not chart impressively the way it was predicted to be.. based on the pre order charts, youtube hits and twitter trending topic about it.
it hits a career high debut in usa at #3 but dramatically went down to #21 the next week
in uk 1D failed to score their 2nd number 1 after what makes you beautiful as it only went to #3 and after 3 weeks, it's now at #16
based alone to these figures and trend, is it fair to say or to have an opinion that 1D is slowly getting over to the hype that they've got? same with any other boybands in the past years
this gives me hope
Just heard this on the radio, weird.
I despise all the teen girls who made this happen.

Well to the people that don't want this to happen need to get behind Leona again, or somebody else like Amelia or Little Mix.
I am surprised JLS didn't get a mention, consdering they have done ok since the X Factor, not that I am a fan of them at all. I think it doesn't do to pay too much heed to the media hype, and just see what happens with acts from the X Factor, they are bound to be around for a short while, then seem to disappear. All these different surveys, yet I never see them to participate in? :conf2:

Anyway this whole thing is stupid, how does this show that they're the most popular act to emerge from X Factor? Leona won six years ago and her hype has died down but they've been on the show much more recently so obviously they're going to be spoken about more than her right now.

Terrible choices.
Rebecca is the only one really worthy of beign bigger than them, but won't happen.

Her voice is amazing and she seems a lovely person, but yeah she is too boring to become more popular than them.
Cher Lloyd is the most realistic I say.

Oh I don't know her as a person to have anything against her, but her singing voice does irritate me.:joker:
And Cher Lloyd is to cultish to ever get that kind of support.

One Direction defiantly have the loudest X Factor related fans. They have a terrific online presence and at live shows the fans (mostly girls) scream as loud as they can (I speak from experience).
