Has anybody been there before or after the devastating earthquake that hit them a couple of years ago?

Just visited there before getting the tranzapline train across to Greymouth, and actually fell in love with the place. Still a lot of destruction and damaged buildings but most parts of the city are amazing and so beautiful. I'm really considering moving from Auckland to there.

Also I stayed in a hostel that had been converted from an old jail last night, was pretty cool.

You do know it's not that earthquake resistant.

Life along the Pacific Rim... Enjoy, Ben, looks amazing! If I ever went to jail, it'd be there, as long as they didn't take count every morning. ;) Nicely done! Bars on the rooms? Do you get a key or do they let you out close to dawn? Do you get a special scented toilet paper roll or bidet? ;)

I've been to the airport, had to wait there 3 hours for a flight to Dunedin :bored: One of the worst flights I've been on. Loads were getting cancelled cos of really bad wind and the captain was like "We're gonna give it a try anyway, see what happens"
