View Full Version : ***The Official CBB11 Ratings Thread***
*mazedsalv**
20-12-2012, 10:03 PM
It's that time of year again. Only 2 weeks until CBB starts and that means it's time to make a thread on the ratings!!
For Channel 5 so far, the launch ratings for CBB have been:
CBB8- 5.3m
CBB9- 3.6m
CBB10- 3.0m
Those were the officials, so the overnights were around 200k-300k lower than those I have posted. What do you reckon, CBB11 will achieve?
I predict around 2.5m overnight and 2.7m official.

I reckon it will be the lowest as well. I don't think there is anyway it would get over 3m. Thr last time it did that was CBB9 finale which got 3.4m officially.

Competition seems pretty weak. It seems on the other channels it's just old documentaries and DIY shows:
BBC1:
DIY SOS The Big Build (DIY)
Home renovation series. Single mother Julie Jones became a national news story when she promised to look after her dying friend's children. Overnight Julie's family grew from three children to eight. Nick Knowles and the team travel to Huntingdon where, with the help of the local community, they aim to transform Julie's house into a home for this supersized family.
BBC2:
Queen Victoria's Children (History Documentary)
Princes will be Princes... In a 60-year family saga this three-part series explores the reign of Queen Victoria through her personal relationships with her husband and her nine children.
ITV1:
Trouble Abroad (Documentary)
The first of a two-part programme which takes a look at how for some of the 5.5 million British expats the dream of a new life abroad has gone sour.
C4:
The Restoration Man (DIY)
Using an inheritance from his late father, artist Keith McIntyre and his wife Sheena bought a listed, Thomas Telford-designed church in the remote island of Berneray in the Outer Hebrides.

Other competition:
BBC One
BBC News, 10-10:35pm
Summer In Blackpool, 10:35-11:35pm
BBC Two
Mrs Brown, 10-11:40pm (Judi Dench film)
ITV1
ITV News at Ten, 10-10:35pm
Gary Barlow & Friends, 10:35pm (repeat)
Channel 4
Millionaire Boy Racers, 10pm-11:05pm
ITV2
Evan Almighty, 8-10pm (bad film)
E4
50 Greatest Plastic Surgery Shockers, 9pm-11:10pm (repeat)
BBC 3
Bad Education, 9-9:30pm (repeat)
Bad Education, 9:30pm-10pm (repeat)
Bad Education, 10pm-10:30pm (repeat)
EastEnders 10:30pm-11:00pm (repeat)
Sky 1
An Idiot Abroad, 9pm (repeat)
A League Of Their Own, 10pm (repeat)
An Idiot Abroad is brilliant and has good repeat value but the episode showing is only from two weeks ago yesterday and already been repeated three times and the fallout from christmas week EastEnders will probably be cancelled out by enough people being in (it being three days after New Years and people starting back at work) to watch it at 7:30.

I'm guessing it'll top CBB10 but less than CBB9.
CBB9 actually had a lot more competition, two new dramas, Eternal Law on ITV and Public Enemy on BBC One, which got 4.32m and 4.5m respectively. So it might match it. It's on closer to New Years this time and there's no new 16-34 competition at all, so the lack of advertising shouldn't hinder it.

I'm gunna go for a 3.3mil average and a peak of 3.7
There's been a decent advertising campaign on billboards/bus stops and in a few magazines.
Also the odd ident on the main channel. It could be much better, but it could be alot worse (such as no advertising what so ever...remember the ch 4 days?)
Throw in a very weak schedule on all other channels, i can't see it averaging under 3mil tbh..
If 5 have thrown must of the budget on a 20sec ad spot during corrie or emmerdale on wednesday evening, then i'll revise my prediction to 3.7 average and a peak of 4million.

Even if the ratings drop off to CBB10 average now atleast the final series average will be about 2.6 due to the launch bumping up the average which will look brilliant for channel 5.

Great rating. The only problem I ever have with these kind of figures for CBB is that they worry me with regards to C5's attitude, and let's say...obsession...with the celebrity series. I'm still not entirely convinced that there won't come a day when they'll decide to drop the main show and just run two CBB's a year, and CBB regularly performing better than BB itself is only going to add fuel to the fire.
DigitalSid
04-01-2013, 11:11 AM

SSL2012
04-01-2013, 11:21 AM
Indeed.
This is why CBB is so crucial for five, and aslong as normal bb can maintain its current average though i do think it will better last years average this year, then i wouldn't be surprised if bb is around for many years.
No show can touch those figures on the network.
And tbf to normal bb, even that still does better then 95% of shows in ratings for the channel at 1.5million overnights.
And i'm sure endemol are clever, bb is a package, if five wish to keep CBB then BB most be part of the deal.

5 mins breakdown of the last 3 launches.... last night is in the first collumn. People thought that viewers will fall throughout, actually quite the opposite. In teh breakdown you can see when the ads were on (as there was a decrease), but excl the ads, in the second hour, CBB was constantly above 4m. When Speidi went in, there were over 4m still watching. BARB takes away the ad breaks and adds the recordings, so I reckon an official of 4m is possible!

The series ratings throughout? They are all on Wikipedia, but they are the officials. I don't know where to find the overnight. The first HL shows OFFICIALS of the last three series are these...
CBB8- 3.4m (quite a bit down from the 5.3m launch)
CBB9- 2.85m
CBB10- 2.10m
Those are the officials, I think overnights for CBB9 and CBB10 for the first HL show were 2.6m and 1.8m.
I agree with you about the weekend, tonight and tomorrow will be difficult, we will have a good indicator where the series will be starting from Sunday and Monday's ratings.

The first night retention rate is about 10% down on the recent average, which is great against a 7 million EastEnders. The question is, will the extra 10% lost come back? It's followed immediately afterwords by a weekend so with a lot of them likely to miss a further two episodes it will be harder to get them back than usual, let's hope it pisses down and all the casual viewers are struck by some super bug :D.

The drop off was about 10% of launch viewers more than normal which isn't the worst that could have happened given the circumstances, as you say, tonight will be the real tester, will the viewers lost last night who will be out tonight bother to catch up / try and carry on without what happened or are they gone? Mr Selfridge and Ripper Street, two highly anticipated dramas, one of them on their first episode are on the other sides and The Iron Lady, which only came out two years ago and won lots of awards is on Channel 4.

I'm not so sure, C4 should manage 2m+ for The Iron Lady, possibly more. Meryl Streep won best actress at the Oscars for it and as I say, it only came out in 2011 and the other two should both manage 4 or 5 m +. Combined they're bigger competition than EastEnders, and it's a Sunday.

Comp is tough, but theres a core 2mil audience that will stick with it regardless of what's on, I think this cbb is attracting more casuals aswell.
So for that reason the minimum it will get is around 2.1 with +1 I woulda thought, I do think it will hit 2.4 maybe more if that ITV advert rumour is true. With +1 btw.
People are skint, and I think the audience range will be higher tonight then most if not all weekends around the year.

Last night was only slightly up on last year.
To be up at all with 14m's worth of competition (not including +1) from the terrestrial channels alone (23.69m competition overall, 3.73m more than against EE on Friday), is astounding and only slightly up (last night on CBB10) or not, shows a MUCH greater viewer loyalty and enjoyment than then (probably more than CBB9 too).
If we want to see an average to match CBB9 it needs to pick up but competition on other channels is reallu tough this month.
I think your putting way too much emphasis on it being a requirement to do that, it's great that it is matching CBB9 so far, but we have to remember that considering it didn't have the curiosity factor CBB8 did (first C5BB, first CBB with current zelebs rather than 80s icons, etcetera), CBB9 did far better than anyone really expected it to, to finish a 100k or 2 behind it in such a busy month wouldn't be a particularly bad thing, the ratings show that with CBB9's competition, CBB11 would easily be matching it right now and Channel 5 are aware of this. It might still match it yet, the competition's a bit stiff again tonight, but it's holding up well, and we have yet to see how it will fair in the slightly quieter 10pm slot Tuesday and Thursdays.

Not sure if it will increase tonight, didn't Miranda (which I love and will catch up on later) get over 9m last week? And MBB also continues to do incredibly. Both shows very popular with younger audiences.
I reckon officials could give it quite a big boost because of the competition CBB has had, so I reckon it really can match CBB9's 2.6m. I mean last night officially would have got around 2.5m.

2.2m is brilliant up against two of the biggest shows for the CBB demographic. Daniel, I do really think it could match CBB9.
Let's not forget that averaged 2.6m, with two 2.2m ratings in the last two days, those will most likely be 2.5m officially, could go higher as the tough competition would lead to more people recording.
Tonight is on at 10pm, not sure what will happen, it's the first 10pm and that usually causes a drop in ratings, however it is the weakest competition since launch. Tomorrow night, I reckon we could see 2.4m-2.5m for the eviction, it's on at 9pm with quite small competition compared to what it has faced recently. And if BOTS "confirms" Lilo (which I doubt), there will be a lot of interest tomorrow.

I think we can achieve 2.5m. CBB9 wasn't close to 3m that many times really.
There was actually only three times (five times including launch and final) where the series OFFICIALLY got 2.8m+ (would have been around 2.5m overnight for that to happen). If it wasn't for the fight and the final, the series would have actually averaged 100k lower at 2.5m.
At this rate we are looking at 2.4m-2.5m. A couple of episodes at around a 2.8m+ officially (one HL show and the final) could actually bring it to 2.6m. So if we want it to average the same as CBB9, we only need a few episodes around 100k-200k higher than we have had recently. It's actually possible, not sure it will happen though.
For the fight, overnight was 2.8m and the officials were 3.11m if anyone wanted to know.

1.98m last night (11.2%)
BOTS got 662k (7.0%)
Share up 2.8% and rating down 400k on yesterday. In the 9pm slot, with the same share (it wouldn't have managed it, more competition, so hypothetically) it would have got 2.67m.
Jake.

The share is more important, so that's good that it managed to do well in that slot.

I love how optimistic you allways are.
So it got under 2 million?
Does that figure include +1? Obviously plus 1 wont add much anyway due to the time it was on.
The share is good i have to say.
Just hope they really stir it up tonight withthis "twist" to get that average back up.

2m is good for 10pm. Here's a rating FACT. 10pm shows will ALWAYS do worse than 9pm shows because it's on later, but the share will always be higher.
And, that figure does not incl +1. The +1 would be just under 100k though because judging by history in other series, at 11pm, it is very difficult to get 100k+.
So with +1 I reckon it added around 80k which would make it 2.06m. Tonight it is on at 9pm and it's an eviction, we should see the highest rating since launch.
Jake.

That's not optimism, that's maths. 23.84 million were watching TV at 9pm, 11.2% (BB's share) of 23.84 is (rounded) 2.67m. I didn't say it would have got the same share at 9pm, in fact I said it almost definitely wouldn't, I'm simply pointing out with the same competition as at 10 but that 23.84m viewers (not going to happen this year) and the same percentage of viewers opting for BB, the rating we'd be looking at would be 2.67m this morning. It's not a massive achievement, there wasn't much on and the decrease in viewers around because of the later slot far exceeded the increase in percentage, but it's interesting to note never the less.

C'mon BB!!! lol
Against Africa, Stargazing Live, Midsomer Murders and One Born Every Minute tonight, Africa should get 6m+ and Midsomer repeats well but I think there's a big enough difference in audience between a Midsomer repeat and CBB to edge it 2.4m including +1, not predicting it as if I'd predicted the last few nights a week or two ago, I'd have gotten them wrong, but wouldn't be surprised.
*mazedsalv**

2.27m (9.5%) incl +1. Peak of 2.75m at 10pm.
I exected more, but at least it was the highest rated since launch. I actually expect it to stay around the same or even increase tonight as it is BB's best rating day today and I don't think any competition is on (just like with when the launch was on).
BOTS got 954k.

For Speidis return i think it could have averaged 2.5/2.6 nothing to drastic as the episodes have been consitantly getting around 2.2.
Hopefully with the buzz on twitter though just like the CBB9 argument it pulled in a large audience on +1.
Seeing as the launch got 3.8 officially the interest is definatley there but i think Channel 5 are bad at promoting the twists/evictions as they dont make them events and not having live feed last night was the biggest mistake they have ever made ratings wise.

Short of a much publicised bust up I can't see any episode before the final this series averaging 2.6m (peaking at 2.6m maybe, this episode did, but not averaging), 2.6m is about this series total viewership, if the viewers that tuned in some nights but not all, those who are watching but not religiously, were to watch on the same night together that's what it'd likely get and you're not going to get a night before a final where they're almost all in.
