Coronation Street's Sunita Alahan (Shobna Gulati) will die in a dramatic fire, it has been reported.

Other characters will also be seen trapped in the Rovers Return as the blaze ultimately devastates the pub, according to The Sun.

Sunita will be suspected of starting the fire by locals, who think that she may have planned it as revenge when her lover Karl Munro (John Michie) reunites with Rovers landlady Stella Price (Michelle Collins).

"When the fire is finally put out, the Rovers will stand in ruins," an insider claimed. "Sunita begins to hate Stella and all she stands for.

"Next thing, the pub bursts into flames - and she's on the scene. Even becoming a victim can't stop people pointing the finger. But obviously if they're wrong, then the real arsonist will still be at large."

Gulati announced her departure from Coronation Street last autumn in order to spend more time on her own writing.

Having originally portrayed Sunita between 2001 and 2006, she returned to the soap in October 2009.

When is Shobna leaving? Only could the fire coincide with the new set? As they are making The Rovers slightly larger aren't they, so would make sense to change the interior at the same time...

Coronation Street's Rovers Return set will be rebuilt after a fire destroys the famous pub in the coming months.

The Sun reports that more people will be able to live above the Weatherfield tavern, which could have a new owner.

"The Rovers will be rebuilt on a bigger scale - the plans show it with two upstairs windows, instead of the one it has now," a source said. "That means more space for a larger family."

Meanwhile, the newspaper also claims that Kym Marsh's character Michelle Connor will become the new landlady after the blaze.

"Everything is very hush hush but there is speculation that Michelle Connor could end up running the new Rovers - as bosses want to cement her as an all-time favourite," the insider claimed.

"Other rumours are that the pub will have a new dining area inside and that Betty Driver's portrait will have pride of place as a lasting tribute to her."

Currently, the Rovers is owned by Stella Price (Michelle Collins), who resides at the establishment with daughter Eva (Catherine Tyldesley).

When the fire storyline emerged last week, there were suggestions that Sunita Alahan - played by the departing Shobna Gulati - will start and ultimately die in the blaze.

"Even Sunita becoming a victim can't stop people pointing the finger," the informant added. "But if they're wrong then the real arsonist will still be at large."

It has been reported that a jealous Sunita will ignite the pub in a desperate act of revenge against ex-lover Karl Munro (John Michie), who is set to reunite with Stella.

I doubt the above is true, it seems a little farfetched that Michelle would go back to running it, however, I was told there might be a chance of Liz McDonald returning. I wonder if this will be the reason why?

I seems 'The Sun' have just seen the plans for the new set which shows the Rovers with 2 upstairs windows at the front, it doesn't mean the pub is meant to be rebuilt bigger or that more people will be able to live above it... Mind you they did have that weird flat above a couple of years back with another living room & kitchen, so I guess anything's possible lol...

Innocent mistake. I have seen soap fans get actors and character names mixed up before, although some lucky ones get their real life name given to them as a character to play:joker:.

Relief Stella will still be in charge. I think Sunita will set fire to The Rovers and die:(, it is a shame because this Karl affair storyline really ruined her and I don't blame Shobna for quitting and wanting to do other roles tbh.

It's gonna be weird having Nick's Bistro as the main "pub" setting for the next few months.

Corrie will have a schedule change in the week of the dramatic Rovers fire.

One of the year's biggest storylines kicks off on Monday, March 18 as the pub is set ablaze by an arsonist, but there will be no Friday night double bill that week.

The change is due to ITV showing England's World Cup qualifier against San Marino from 7.30pm on Friday, March 22.

Coronation Street's missed episodes are expected to be broadcast as an hour-long edition on Sunday, March 24, but the timeslot won't be confirmed until next week.
