Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell will not appear in any further episodes of the soap while he faces child sex offences, ITV has confirmed.

The 48-year-old's character Kevin Webster has been immediately dropped from the programme as legal proceedings continue.

Earlier today (February 15), it emerged that Le Vell has been accused of 19 offences including raping a child, indecently assaulting a child and sexual activity with a child.

An ITV spokesperson said: "Given the serious nature of these charges, Michael Le Vell will not be appearing in Coronation Street pending the outcome of legal proceedings. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further at this time."

Le Vell, who was charged under his real name Michael Turner, is scheduled to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, February 27.

He was previously arrested and questioned over the alleged child offences in September 2011, but the matter was later dropped.

The character of Kevin has been appearing on Coronation Street since 1983.

DS

Obviously if he is proven guilty, this means Kevin Webster will now have left Coronation Street.

He Raped a child

I don't think it's all that legal to say outright that he did it, it needs to go in front of a jury first.

well thats a foregone conclusion. my god I wonder how they got him? there has been a lot of focus on 'celebrity peadophilia' though I guess...

He Raped a child

Allegedly....although he is still innocent until proven guilty. However, for the case to be re-opened and charges brought would lead you to believe there is some pretty damning evidence....The truth will out, hopefully.

The Police are saying he raped a child.

Will he get a jury?

[A police spokesman said last night: 'A man has been charged with 19 child sex offences.

'Michael Turner has been charged with 19 offences including raping a child, indecently assaulting a child and sexual activity with a child.

'He is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates on Wednesday February 27.

'The charges, which were authorised by the CPS following a review of evidence, relate to offences against a child between 2001 and 2010.']

Of course he will get a jury unless he pleads guilty (which I can't imagine he will)...the first appearance at the Mags will just be sent to Crown Court I would imagine...

I wonder how they'll write him out if he is found guilty, will they just have someone mention that he's moved away or something?

I'd say they'll make it as low quay as possible considering the crime he's accused of Matt

They will most probably just have the police come to tell Sally he has died in an accident or something similar.

Or it'll be like Tracey Barlow when she was upstaris playing her tapes and he will just never appear again...and they'll just stop mentioning him

I suppose they can just have it assumed he has run off since he is also implicated in the abduction of Ruby and in Tyrone's current storyline.
Then take it from there after the trial is over as to whether he ever comes back again.

They need to mention his absence really, "Kevin Webster" is just a character.

I'm quite shocked about this, just WHY,do they need to do this sort of thing,he was a married man and had a good job,did he have any kids himself?he will be ruined now whatever the outcome.

Its a bit tricky for the script writers as he is involved in the Tyrone snatching Ruby story line.

Sorry, but just because he has been charged, does not mean he is guilty!

Anyone can accuse someone else of something, does not mean they did it...

Exactly, which is where the innocent till proven guilty theory comes in.

There have been numerous cases before where some people have been jailed wrongly for something they have been accused of which they did not do, if he is convicted and there is enough proof then he will rightly be condemned but until then IMO no-one should be judgemental until that moment.

They will be freaked out if he is found guilty, if he is found innocent then the Corrie cast will rally round him because they usually stick together, even if there is some very, very big egos in that cast;).

It's for the same thing he was accused of 2 years ago...

My uncle was in a similar situation some years ago when he was accused of having sex with a 15 year old, this 15 year old happened to be my cousin (not his daughter) & was/is a compulsive liar. Her brothers had received compensation after a male babysitter 'fiddled' with them (their mother is a dirty skank whos children all have different fathers & she would leave them with anyone so she could go out for the night) & when they wouldn't give her any money to go on holiday she made up a story that my uncle had 'raped' her as he used to babysit them all sometimes too.

There was NO evidence at all, just her word against his & he was found guilty & put in prison alongside true paedophiles. He had no early release as he refused to admit he was guilty & also as he refused to take part in paedophile 'therapy' which included them being shown child pornography to gauge their reactions!

If indeed he is guilty then he deserves all he gets, but just remember many people accused of such awful things are innocent & it completely ruins their lives...

I know its for the same thing he was accused of 2 years ago and im sorry to hear about your uncle..i do know people get accused of terrible things even when they are innocent..i never once said a bad thing about him because you are right..innocent until proven guilty but you're completely misunderstanding what im saying..which is that i feel bad for his co workers as they must be feeling weird about this whole thing.weither he is innocent or guilty, the fact he's been accused of this and its gone to news would unsettle anyone that is close to him

Yes I'm sure some are rattled about it & may be questioning if he is guilty or not but don't forget he has been on Corrie for 30 years, some cast members he has known that length of time & he is very close to some of them, so like family I'm sure they would be incredibly supportive of him...
