Desperately hoping Mourinho takes charge.
I think it may be Mourinho too....seems a bit coincidental with all the speculation about Jose coming back to Chelsea and now this coming pretty much out of the blue... Will be a split decision - a lot of United fans I know who I've spoken to in the past don't like the "Special Ones" techniques

:( I suppose it had to come some time.
As an Arsenal fan he is occasionally frustrating and childish but as a football fan he is one of the greatest managers of all time. A champion to the sport.

Coincidently my dad last yr told me he'd be retiring this yr, Moyes had always been his choice to fill his shoes, I argued it'd be Mourinho!

He's done as much as he can do I suppose. If Wenger retires too then I'll be very happy.
Simply the greatest manager ever, it would be a disaster if Jose decides to abandon Chelsea and goes to United though

There are people phoning in the radio shows here in Manchester in tears....
They must have someone lined up as SAF wouldn't have done this otherwise....I definitely think it will be between Jose and Moyes...
Drew.
08-05-2013, 08:58 AM
i knew it! i should have stuck money on this last night..
despite the rumours last night.. waking up to this its still a massive shock and a sad day for football, the guy is an absolute hero and will be a massive loss to the game
Wrigleys are missing out big time :(

Players, then technical staff and then remaining staff all briefed by SAF in three seperate sessions at Carrington today.

Greatest british manager ever, possibly the greatest manager te world has ever seen
I think hes a terrific human being, loyal honest hard working strong family man
a brave manager who always gave youth a chance and developed umpteen kids into world beaters
its a testimoney to his greatness, not just the endless trophies won, but also the sheer number of brilliant players he produced, the never say die work and team ethic , also the number of players under him who went onto coach at the top level.

Lol, why would he be pushed?
Anywho there was an article written on lifesapitch.co.uk in November 2012, which contained the following:
It would not be the greatest surprise if he seizes the chance to address unfinished business and returns to Chelsea. Yet United’s heritage and Ferguson’s stellar history register with him. Mourinho’s ego would be engaged by the challenge of what many regard as the impossible job – sustaining the success of our greatest club manager.
Mourinho and Ronaldo are surprisingly unpopular in Spain. The whispers that both are likely to leave Madrid at the end of the summer grow in intensity. When Ferguson leaves, it will be swift and sudden. It could coincide with the greatest surprise of all.
Please be true.

today is a sad day for football because the manager that has won more trophies and hearts than any other person in all of the world is hanging up his studs for the very last time. when it was the morning time alex ferguson texted everyone that he knows and he said that he needs to tell them something really important and he said for them all to come to his house as quick as they possibly can because it is really important news and he put i am not pregnant btw hehe at the end of the text for a bit of a joke as well because he wanted to lighten the mood and then when everyone got to his house he said that after almost 70 years in the biz he has decided for himself that it is time for him to have a bit of time for himself so that he can do all of the things that he enjoys doing like spending time with his niece and pampering himself and i think that even though he won all of the trophys in the world and he won both leagues at the same time i will still always remember him for his kindness and for all of the lovely things that he did for people like when he stayed next to david beckhams bed for a week after he got sent off against france in the world series or when he helped deliver dennis irwins first baby boy when he was born premature and i dont think that anyone will ever forget the look on phil nevilles face when alex ferguson taught him how to kick a ball for the very first time and whoever the next manchester manager is i know that they will have a lot to live up to because i dont think that there is any other man in all of the world who could ever teach paul scholes how to read and write as well and with as much love and passion as sir alex ferguson did this time last year. Yeah. Losing the GOAT manager is no reason to meltdown as football fans at all. Not like your lot who think there is some Suarez Witch hunt and the FA gifts us the title every season....
I caught a bit of H&J on shout****E when I popped to the shops earlier. They recalled a story told to them from a referee who said he avoided giving penalties against united if he could get away with it, at the toilet, and did his best to avoid making any decisions against them at all in the first 5 minutes of every game.
That's what fans get annoyed at. The Suarez stuff is insane when you compare it to Terry for example. Liverpool aren't good enough, and that is nothing to do with United. But when refs will say things like that off the record then you know full well what has been going on. United have easily been the best team since 93, and all but a couple of years we haven't even been in competition.
I'll always respect his medals, but as a man his serious flaws get overlooked.
Lets see what happens when Moyes comes in.
Locke.
08-05-2013, 02:23 PM
Yes!!!! I thought it was too good to be true with the rumours last night, didn't think it'd actually happen.

He is a hero. A United hero. Precious Lionel is touted as a hero, so why not Fergie?
And we'll see it even more when Moyes takes charge. We got raped by Barca twice with Fergie at the helm. Expecting us to go down 3-0 to Basel in the group stage next season.
The big question is, who's gonna replace "The Mighty Moyes" at the fortress Goodison?

Think the new man at woodison will have the right experience to manage Everton. He's taking Wigan down this season.
A bitter Liverpool fan(But what else would you expect from a Liverpool fan), still annoyed that your currently the 2nd best team on Mersyside?
I'd take Malky Mackay for Everton

Don't get me wrong. Of course we get decisions at home in our favour. What big team doesn't though? Arsenal have been saved with red cards and penalties all season and have been for years. City this season have had ridiculous decisions. If United get the same decisions, but don't wont the leagues and Arsenal,City or Chelsea win it then it would be "Oh FA gifts it to them" etc.
As for Suarez. I'm bored discussing it. The Terry suspension was a joke, but so was the Suarez one anyway. 7 games for what he said and done? Get off lol

But referee's actually admitting they didn't want to give decisions/penalties against united? Don't you think that's a little more menacing? Of course all big teams will natuarally get more decisions at home. That's the nature of football. This is a little more than that though.

I hope Mourinho gets the job, but it's looking almost certain to be Moyes. I was always frustrated with Alex Ferguson's lack of transfer signing every year and he never seemed to sign any big players. I know he was all about the younger players developing and everything, but with the way City/Chelsea have been going these past few years, it's time united started signing bigger players, and it's been proven to work with the RVP signing this season. I'm hoping whoever the new appointment is will not be afraid to sign big players.

I doubt that very much, why would he do that? when now he'll have the money and pulling power to bring in world class players whom he had no chance of getting at Everton, but one thing he did do at Everton is that he always got the best out of the players he did have available to him, and i have no doubt he will get the best out of the players available to him at Utd, because that's what he does.

Moyes won't have to do hardly anything, the systems are all set in place at Manchester United for them to be successful, the squad of players there are great players whether they're playing for Ferguson or Moyes, and they know their jobs, Moyes will just carry on them system's and I'm sure will have plenty of advice of Ferguson, and he's proved he can make a competitive team in this league (even on limited resources), he's shown that he's loyal and brings stability to a club, where as someone like Mourinho although probably the best manager in the World, he does have the potential to upset the applecart, and would be the kind of person who want to put his own system's in place, and his style of play is not the Manchester United style of play.
Moyes deserves this opportunity for the graft he's put in.

We have a lot of dead wood in our midfield, to be fair. Our midfield needs real work.
And Mourinho's style of play is fine. He has this reputation for being defensive but he's shown he can play fantastic football. Real broke a La Liga record scoring 121 goals last season. He plays better football than Moyes has done so far in his career.

And rightly so his teams should have played better football than Moyes teams, he's managed teams with the best resources available to him, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid all with limitless amounts of cash to buy the best players in the World, Moyes hasn't had that opportunity (yet) to prove himself in the elite games, I think he'll take to it like a duck to water, he's a proven top manager in the premier league, he qualified Everton for the Champions league, got them to an FA cup final, and a Semi Final his final league positions are
7th
17th (transition time)
4th (and there's the transition)
11th (champ leauge and Europa league stretched our resources)
6th
5th
5th
8th
7th
7th
and it looks like 6th this season
Now that's not too bad with what he's had to work with at Everton , imagine what he'll do with what he has to work with at Manchester United, the sky's the limit

As a lot of people have said, Moyes is a big gamble. Completely inexperienced in regard to Europe and the title race, the only thing really going for him is his long stretch at Everton which is perhaps what the people upstairs want, someone who is there for the long haul unlike Mourinho who only really stays for a few years. Moyes has done well with his budget at Everton, but a major honour still eludes him after 11 years. When we brought in Sir Alex, he has already changed the landscape of Scottish football uprooting Celtic and Glasgow with Aberdeen. Can David Moyes walk into Man Utd and carry on from where Sir Alex left off? It's hard to tell, but as a United fan he isn't my first choice. Considering though I've only ever known Fergie as the boss, I don't really know who is my first choice.

Sir Alex is a legend. Hailing from Aberdeen, I've a lot of admiration for the man though I'm not one of these people who blindly supports Manchester United because I support Aberdeen, I hate those kinds of people. The results he's produced over his career are nothing short of unbelievable and he should be remembered as the greatest football manager ever to exist in this country. We don't need "alot more" than him though. If we get him We have a midfielder who will take no ****s and bully people. Would give Carrick's legs a break. Now a midfielder who can thread a killer ball to really relieve the pressure off Carrick and we are set imo.
As for the Glazers, I actually credit them. They could easily of gone for the big name to boost the brand, but they have trusted Fergie's word and have attempted to think long term. Highly doubt it's a case of wanting a yes man.

If you look at our midfield, the standout performer is Carrick. Excellent passes, reads the game well always looking for the man in a good position. I've always admired Carrick and I'm delighted this season he has been highlighted as a much needed player in our team. Kagawa has showed glimpses but I'm convinced his future is out wide- he has hardly set the league alight down the middle. Cleverley is one to keep an eye on, next season he must start to show his worth otherwise he could end up being similar to Gibson. Scholes is gone, not getting games and I can't see him here next season. Giggs can't perform week in week out because of his age but still produces great displays. Jones isn't really one for going forward, will be an excellent CB. Anderson needs to go, 6 seasons and he really hasn't done a lot. We've really missed Fletch, but it's unlikely he'll play again. When you look at this, what does Fellaini add that is so outstanding? He isn't the type of world class player we need at the moment. The display against Chelsea shows how weak our midfield is without Carrick.

Don't get me wrong I would love Jose! At the very least I want him back in the PL.
I think David Moyes is precisely the kind of manager they need. Fergie's choice to home grow talent rather than squander millions on buying existing talent is a wise one, because it's more stable than throwing money at men who will only be tempted away by better money. José Mourinho would not keep up that kind of work, but I think David Moyes would. European experience comes with time, Moyes is a professional, he'd be up to the task. I hope that Moyes gets it.

Alex Ferguson only had Cup winners cup experience before he came to Manchester United, Mourinho or anyone for that matter never had champions league experience until they managed in that competition, it's not that superior a competition it's still just a game of football.

Alex Ferguson only had Cup winners cup experience before he came to Manchester United, Mourinho or anyone for that matter never had champions league experience until they managed in that competition, it's not that superior a competition it's still just a game of football.
Fergie broke the stranglehold between Celtic and Rangers.
Imo, it's vastly superior. Where is a team as good as Bayern, Dortmund or Barcelona in our league to come up against? Dread to think what they'd do to us with Moyes.

Part of me hopes it's a complete shock tomorrow....I got a text before from a huge fan saying someone had said jurgen klopp is in the frame too...don't believe it but I would love to wake up to a surprise....
Miles better than Moyes. I fear about who we'd sign with Moyes in charge. Nobody will of heard of him abroad really. Whereas with Jose, tremendous pulling power.
I'm not playing for Manchester United because even though i'm involved in football, I've never heard of David Moyes.

Fellaini wouldn't be allowed to use his arms like he does in Europe. As Drew said, he's a hot head. In Europe, you can barely do an 'effin thing nowadays.
I don't think we have many other performers anyway in midfield. Cleverley offers nothing really for me. This guy just passes it short. Did sweet FA against Chelsea and some thought he did well. If well is making 2-3 noteworthy passes each game then deary me.
Anderson is just fat, inconsistent and injury prone.

Lmao! You think a player's decision isn't partly based on a manager then? Guess Zaha didn't join United partly due to Sir Alex then.

Cleverley is 23, next season will be the real test. If he doesn't show his worth next season he is another name added to the list of deadwood and he'll end up at Stoke or something. I think his performance against Chelsea was a bit lacklustre, didn't really notice him. The whole team took their foot of the pedal and it showed. As I say, I'd give him one more season to prove himself. Agree about Anderson, hardly ever plays and when he does he doesn't do a lot.

I'd like a ballwinner and a playmaker. The former I'm not so sure. Strootman has been heavily, heavily linked but I haven't seen a whole lot of him. Saw him a bit at the weekend and had some nice touches, set up a nice move but I obviously can't base it on that.
In terms of a playmaker. The dream is Ilkay Gundogan (http://i.imgur.com/IYwKBBK.gif)at Dortmund. Christian Eriksen is leaving Ajax this summer, in the last year of his deal so will be going cheaper than you'd expect for someone with his talent. Also a fan of Joao Moutinho. I'd be chuffed with any of those three, especially the first two.

Not when it come's to a club like Manchester United no, I think most players in the World would jump at the opportunity to play for them.

Disagree tbh. I think if Fergie had said, 'I'm having one more season' that would of effected who we'd sign this summer. I think managers play a huge roll.
Edit: I just remembered Jack, Sven Bender at Dortmund looks a good player.

Eriksen would bring goals from midfield, he would be an exiting player to have. Gungogan played well against Real and from what I've seen looks a very good player too, 22 years old as well - room for development. The board will be tempted to go for the cheaper option and Moyes doesn't seem the type to disagree with that.

I think signing from the Bundesliga is a very good idea, some great midfield players especially at Dortmund.

Yeah, Gundogan was absolute class. Plays great every time I see him. 22 years of age, plays like someone who's been running midfields for ten years.
Eriksen would be a bargain. If we don't even go for him then smfh.

Not sure I saw that Drew. Even so, if he said that then ROFL if this is him improving. No idea what Woy sees in him. That said, Woy thinks Ashley Young is England's best winger. http://static.redcafe.net/images/smilies/lol.gif

Really hasn't pushed on from the start of last season tbh. The guy is a five yard passing genius, however. Pass and move is nice to watch. And he always wants the ball it's just he gets it and passes it short all the time.
Just saw this also:
Chris Mendes (works for talkSPORT)
Cabbie in Manchester last week told me and @otheralexreid Fergie was about to retire on doctor's orders. No 'news' on replacement, sadly

Hope it just a general age concern, hope he is in general good health. He deserves to enjoy a long retirement.

SAF has done a lot of that too.
Drew.
