Endemol president Tim Hincks has reaffirmed the production company’s commitment to Big Brother, saying it is “utterly central to what we do”.
In an interview with MediaGuardian correspondent John Plunkett, the former Endemol UK CEO said he’d like the show’s lifespan to be longer than that of the Rolling Stones, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.
“If it launched today it would still be a success because it is a very modern format in the way it interacts with social media and technology,” he said. “It has always been ahead of the curve. You can watch Brazilian Big Brother in 3D.
“It’s been around 13 years, which is longer than the Beatles. Can it be around longer than the Rolling Stones? We should be aiming for that.
“Big Brother remains utterly central to what we do and will always be close to my heart.”

Would you like BB to last for 50 years?

It would be pretty cool to look back on it in my rocking chair

I'd like it to last more than fifty years to be honest, as I still see myself as being a bit alive in 50 years at least. lol
Though I doubt he's referring to Big Brother UK in particular, I take it he means the format, as Big Brother will not last 50 years in the UK, not uninterrupted anyway.

I think it'd be pretty cool for BB to still be running when I'm 60-odd.
Big Brother is a format that can be refreshed year-on-year. There's brand new housemates every year, a new theme, a different house... if it is produced correctly, I don't see why it can't run for 50 years.
People argue it has already run its course and that it should have ben axed years ago, but if it is given the correct treatment and produced correctly, it can work for so many years.
The same applied to any of the same type of reality TV show. There's no reason The X Factor can't run for that long if it is done correctly. A fresh crop of singers ever year...

I can't see Big Brother lasting 50 years in the UK. It may go through phases of disappearing then coming back a few years down the line - but no way on Earth it will stay stable in the UK. The ratings just aren't good enough for it to live a long life.
Big Brother as a franchise though, on the whole, it can easily last 50+ years.

I can see it as a franchise running for more years upon years.
the Brazilian version is still a huge hit
The US version has gained viewers 3 out of the last 4 years.
Also there's still a few versions still insanely popular in their own countries as well.

50 years is insane.
It's not Coronation Street, it's already a dying brand, like they can bring anything new and exciting for another 40 years. 10 more years at most.

Think he's referring to the format, rrather than BBUK (as much as I'd like to see that go on for that long to. and Endemol, probably)

This.
I think it will still be on - as in some way, and yeah maybe even under the name Big Brother, in 50 years time.
But I think in 50 years, we're more than likely going to see it on a new channel or back on Channel 4. It'll not survive on Channel 5 for longer than another few years. Have a feeling.

Oh I see. Well than that makes sense, some countries still love Big Brother, it's still popular around the world.

Technology and TV habits will completely change in 50 years, I doubt it

I think in 37 years time people's attention spans will get so small that they will be too bored to watch BB! The show would move to a smaller channel than Channel 5 as the ratings would be too small for even them. I think MTV will host it in 5 years time!!! Mark my words.
In theory, Big Brother could continue for many years to come. The show focuses on human interaction and personality and this surely will always be interesting?

Agree with this, the only shows that really stay relevant or can adapt to such things are stuff like current affairs shows or soaps, hence why they're the only programs that have been running for that long a period of time
I'd be surprised if Big Brother lasts another 10 years

In Brazil will still have many seasons as the broadcaster has a gain of 500 million pounds per season.

I voted yes but I honestly don't know. 50 years of Big Brother sounds great, but if it's like how it has been on C5 so far (this series excluded), then no thanks.

Maybe, but not if it is on as much as it is now. It will only be on in 50 years time if they take a 4-5 year break around three times. There is no way we will still have a BB in the summer and a CBB in the winter come 2063 and every year until then. It would probably have to be cancelled from Ch5, then go to another channel, get cancelled there, get picked up again, etc...
Maybe BB in the uk could last 50 years but for them 50 years I bet it will change channel
I think it will last on channel 5 as long as it on channel 4

50 years is just silly. there's only a handful of TV shows that have lasted 50 years.
I think Survivor has a better chance than Big Brother.
Are there any shows in the world that have been on for 50 years? Maybe News shows, but certainly no entertainment shows.
I think maybe Saturday Night Live might do it, but even that's optimistic.
The Real World has been going since the early 90's though, so, who knows?

Even News shows are rare to last 50 years.
