Why is TOWIE seen as a massive success and its cast turned into celebrities when....

Big Brother smashes it in the ratings and the housemates are on tv everyday for 11 weeks yet leave the house as unknowns.

Most people see BB as a flop but it slays TOWIE, Made In Chelsea, Geordie Shore in viewership yet gets pretty much no press attention

Probably because on TOWIE they have essentially the same cast every year and there are only a handful of major characters. Whereas on BB the cast is larger and changes every year so the audience forgets about them after the series ends.

I think its cos towie and geordie shore etc. are so unbelievably ****e that the press just take the piss out of it, but bb is just the same every year and there's not really anything to take the piss out of

I mean, the likes of TOWIE is so car-crash and literally everything is staged, but people latch on to it like there's no tomorrow.

And good lord, the way some Essex people act since the show started to broadcast, it' horrible. People from Essex don't speak with that fake horrible accent, yet I'd say 80% of all people from there have suddenly adopted it over the last few years. ew.

I think the TOWIE lot become even 'more famous' because ITV shot them about on their programmes (This Morning, Loose Women, Celebrity Juice etc) - hard to escape them sometimes!

The nature of big brother... eliminating housemates every week... makes them more disposable.

TOWIE are on a smaller channel (ITV2), which is aimed at women. Their more celebrities cause Women who watch the show would buy the magazines they appear in e.g OK or Loo Magazine.

Mostly the same cast, interviews and appearance on other 'bigger' tv shows, plus they are constantly bringing out named products and promoting them constantly all over the place making themselves more well known etc.
