View Full Version : BB14 launch lowest rated ever

14-06-2013, 09:27 AM
Not including the two one-off E4 spin-offs, with 2.1m (10%). Unlikely competition, 'Horizon: The Secret Life of Cats' won the slot with 4.9m (22%), head to head (not including +1), BB came fourth in it's slot, despite, by everyone's estimations, what seemed like (but clearly wasn't) no competition. If there isn't some amazing retention now or some big viewer boosting '-gate', there's a good chance that next year could be the last of the civillian series. Wonder if C5 think saving the whole promotional budget for the celebrity series was / is a good decision now?

oh well nvm. (as long as they keep renewing the series for as long as it can be good, they can have 5 viewers for all I care)... ratings mean nothing to me, but I would have at least liked 2.5/2.6

I thought BB would get 3/3.5m not 2.1m. I feel more could have been done by Channel 5 to promote the series. There were no billboards this year. Imagine if they had one saying "What's the secret....Big Brother Secrets and Lies coming soon to Channel 5". It would get those humming and haring over whether to watch it thinking ooh what could that be and this could create intrigue and gossip. We just had the main advert starring Emma Willis and a few double page spreads in the Daily Star and Express. To me, it seems like Celebrity Big Brother is their bread and butter and they feel contractually obliged to do these civilian shows.

They won't. Without some ridiculously good retention we're looking at a shocking overnight average.

It'd be good for a series avg yes, for the launch? It's piss poor. A lot of BB launch viewers are non-fans tuning in out of curiosity and to take the piss out of the wannabes, it won't stay above 2m past tonight (if it even manages that tonight) unless it somehow manages to for the first year ever hang on to 95% of it's viewership (literally).

Perhaps a number of reasons

1)Lack of proper advertising.

After 2 years of considerate favourtism towards pushing the budget on cbb. Five need to focus it more on the civ version to save this format and make the public more aware.

2)lack of intrest...

Perhap's the format is on it's last legs and people just don't really care about big bro anymore, no matter what changes or advertising occur.

Should this trend continue, i'd certainly not advise the end, BB (certainly the celeb) can still pull big numbers, and as twitter shown last night the civ bb was making alot of noise, which no other show on he channel can attract.

I'd propose a break for a year, keep the contract with endemol, bring it back under massive publicity etc, and if it still fails then yes i'd end it for good.

And finally

3)General viewership is down all over the board

and

4)Misleading title, "Big Brother secrets and lies" without proper/clear advertising, people could of quite easily mistaken it for a documentary and not really cared...i'm baffled as to how it's come no where near the previous two launch's.

I do think last years farce really pissed a lot of people off someone boring winning BB people can forget and not really hold a grudge but when someone like him can basically do what he wants and get the reward that's going to hurt the show.

This is what happens when you don't promote it enough and save the money for the 4398579th series of Celebrity Big Brother. ****ing morons.

Anyway I said this the other day but just in case anyone in charge of the decision is reading...you drop the civilian series, I turn off. I shan't be watching two CBB's a year without the original run.

And why do I get the feeling that the reason they haven't yet promoted 5*'s live feed is because they don't want it to do well so that they can reduce it, rather than increase it...

See, if they scrapped the CBB series in September all the money for that could have been used to cover the civilian show and also promote it. All they needed was one or two adverts shown on ITV during BGT week, they would have instantly secured a good portion of viewers then!

This whole concentrating on CBB thing will lead to the show being axed sooner than they think.

Extremely disappointed with just 1.99m for its first run, and even the +1 doesn't do any favours.

Though I do seem to recall BB13 about 2.7m for the overnights and it got boosted up to just over 3m if I'm right? Hopefully the official ratings will get it to 2.5m this year.

Cost is relative like Frow and others decided better to spend 100k on buying off Brian's contract.

I don't think for one moment sticking a decent amount of coverage on will lump 2 million viewers back but truly yet again BB is on and the updates are crap its dead there's no sense of involvement they expect you to tune in at allotted times and expect that to carry the momentum on till the next day.

We had Jeff ford for nearly two years telling people this was the new vision of Bigbrother along comes frow and almost ripped apart everything BB on C5 was about.

apparently there's odds of 25/1 BB being axed Midseries before that happens I truly hope Ben Frow throws caution to the wind and moves the 2hr feed till later in the night and adds maybe and extra hour.

Its extreme but I would drop the Mole just pretend he had enough and walked and just let them get on with it they can still have viewers vote on what BB should do.

And would be looking at maybe a shock triple eviction in 2/3 weeks then adding some grounded Hm's who are going to give viewers fun and be there for just that a lot of them last night clearly just there YET again to join the Zlist.

3 million yes If what frow wrote about money being a key issue they will be gutted by this.

feel sorry for Emma because she was utterly amazing last night I thought even better than Davina. She really showed why Brian had to go because the guy just couldn't install any sense of a Grand launch, Emma did.

When I read the stories about the HM's being more grounded I thought with all the other changes it was going to happen but loads of them were just the same old Zlisters waiting to happen.

that being said it might shock us all and the numbers wont drop much lower and last night the truly loyal fanbase were the only ones that cared so watched.

daniel-lewis-1985

CSI gets over 2 million sometimes and a lot of Channel 5 shows get between 1 and 1.7 million so BB is just gonna be on par with them or lower for the highlight shows by the looks of it.

Proves that Celebrity Big Brother is all that people are interested in when it comes to channel 5, hopefully they learn from this and make the new series less tacky during its run time will tell if they go back to basics and fix the editing word of mouth could spread. :)

They had the perfect Celebrity series with Julie Goodyear! I much prefer the normal series but I can't deny when it's moved to Channel 5 their celebrity series are decent but the main show verges on tedious at times.

There's no celebrity that would sign up for 10 weeks though, I think the longest C4 one was just one day longer than 4 weeks (most of them were 4 weeks towards the end). They could probably make it 5, 6 would be pushing it though to get them to agree to it.

I'd like January's CBB to be 4 weeks again but I shan't hope for it cause if they dare extend CBB this summer and cut BB back I'll cut someone.

The last CBB I disliked because of the cast but the ones before it were pretty good I personally think the year Julie was in provided the best entertainment in a CBB series ever. She was fantastic we still quote her around the house. "Ya should t'felt t'impact of that pie on ma face' nearly knocked me two front teeth out" "DON'T TALK ****E!"

Hopefully this years cast is good enough to provide those comedy gold moments and I can forgive the pesky edits. If any of them have the potentially to be as entertaining than the previous dullards then I am all for it. :)

Ouch for BB!! All I can say as a big fan. It will go sub 2m for sure tonight, but (less likely), could it build like BB1? Doubtful. Only positive is that it was highest rating of Ch5 since CBB final... but that says nothing.

That rating though is really embarrassingly bad. The only thing that will help is if it builds tonight, or if it stays around 2m, that it will not drop below 1.6m in the series, but it will.

Not surprised, the opening show was low key, and the HM's are the worst ever.

It would be amazing if this series could build.

It has the potential if the media still keep reporting on it as much as they are at the moment.

Luckily there are no articles in the sun, mirror, star etc about the disastrous ratings last night so fingers crossed they haven't cottoned on lol.

Plus Emma is amazing and im sorry her series should not be rating lower than Brians.

Agreed about the build. I hope a lot of people just didn't know or couldn't watch and it could build tonight. But when has that ever happened?

Imagine if it timeshifts 1m when BARB officials come out.... we can hope and dream. I doubt it very much though.

Tonights not going to rate well.

Theres no buzz and even to me it doesn't feel like launch.

They messed up putting it over 2 nights.

Hopefully Those 2.1M Viewers Stick With The Show

Lack of good promo, tacky music, Brian's presenting has tarnished the show and the TOWIE housemates from 2011 to 2012 have shed more viewers.
