View Full Version : Gina wasnt warned for being 'ageist'

I tweeted this and was waiting for somebody to pick this up on TiBB because Ive made quite a few threads tonight but nobody has so I shall
Gina several times remarked on Jemima's age and how she should 'behave' tonight, and BB allowed this to slide by without warning (or at least showing a warning) of this to Gina. Or if they dont want to use the term 'ageist' at least give her a verbal spanking for being offensive if they must warn Jemima over ridiculous things.
Dont you think? BB acted very unfairly.
Jake.

Gina should have given her a warning for her behaviour in general. Why should somebody be allowed to victimise somebody, accusing them of racism and what not and get away with it with zero repercussions. BB should have either given both a talking to or neither. But good thread Jords.

Thank you Jakey :pipe:

No worries Jords! And you'd think that given Gina's age, she'd grow up a bit and stop acting like a child. Will be interesting to hear about how she lasts in the real world once her mothers credit card dries up.

If GINA a BLACK woman felt offended then she has the right to say so. Neither of them should of got warned it was just stupid and didn't need bb to get involved.

Wouldn't being ageist sound more along the lines of "I hate you because you're old, you're incapable of doing things because you are old" She was only saying that an elder lady should act more mature because of her age etc.

Can you imagine the complaints if Big Brother ignored this. People just like to complain.

She didn't really lol, she was talking about taste and what her preference generally is.. her comment to Gina was a bit ignorant and unneeded but it's all about context

I agree with Vicky on this one in the poll thread about whether Jemima should have been warned or not. Jemima was backed into a corner and was trying to argue that she isnt racist (which must be really nasty to be accused of) and it just didnt come out well.
I get why they warned her, but I dont agree with it. I would have been more satisfied however if Gina was also warned, she was accusing Jem of something that could really blow out horribly on exiting the house.

If they ignored it how long do you think it would take for the hags and journalists to take it out of context and put Big Brother in the newspaper claiming another race row.
They're just saving their back against the temperamental, pessimistic fans who complain at every opportunity.

See my thoughts in the other thread.
Basically, if the accusation can ruin somebody's life, the FALSE accusation or wielding of such power in a frivilous or ruinous manner should have similar repercussions.
As it stands right now, idiots can go around just branding innocent people "RACIST!!!!!1!!!" and destroy people's lives.
They are abhorrent.

She said she wouldn't date a black person.. So no matter what their personality is she wouldn't go there because they are black?
Me I wasn't offended but I didn't feel alright about the comment. It just felt like she was saying black people are not good enough for her, although I don't think I was as offended as gina it did still hit a nerve when she said it.
If somebody's skin colour effects how you treat them what are you? (And to make it worse she assumed gina wouldn't go out with a white guy...)
Jemima was going around talking about how gina is selfish, and stuck up and spoilt when she had not even had a conversation with her.

Really don't think she was saying that black people are not good enough for her, she was just talking about her preference in men. If she had said 'I don't usually go for white men', would there have been a fuss? Of course not. She doesn't treat people of a different skin colour any differently and no evidence has been shown of this, so for Gina to be going around shouting such nasty claims just wasn't fair.

It was plain racist. She said she wouldn't date a black guy but she might go for mixed race. Regardless of attractiveness, personality, intelligence, etc. she lumped all Black and later Chinese guys into the same category of people she wouldn't date. She meant that she wouldn't date them because of their race and nothing else.

I gues I will never understand this I don't really have a type expecially race wise. What she said does imply that if sam was black would here relationship with him be the same?
Dw I wasn't really that offended it just hit a nerve and I would of probably forgotten about it had it not caused all that mess....
I was so shocked when I saw how much darker her face was without make up that with the blond weave and the blue contacts gives me the idea Gina isn't very confident about her colour which it why she was so defencive.

She did say Daley was good-looking but was attached but idk
I have a black mate who was my flatmate this year and he has never slept with a white girl and doesnt think hed be able to date one (for whatever reason), I never took offense though because he likes white people just wouldnt date a white girl. It really is just personal taste
But maybe you have a point there, I never noticed and if that is the case I would then feel sorry for Gina and understand it.

She could have easily said "I like dark men like Mediterranean men" and left it at that.
She CLARIFIED that she wouldn't date a black guy for seemingly no reason other than to make sure everybody watching knew that she was 'better than that'.

..ageism isn't a criminal offence though Jords...I do think there was some manipulation of the situation by Gina but Jemima still said it and imo what she said was a racist remark because people should see people and not colour, so it was wrong to assume Gina wouldn't be attracted to 'white guys'..why wouldn't she...?...the whole thing is quite controversial because of the circumstances and how Gina pushed her but I don't think that BB had any choice but to give her that warning....

I agree with this to a certain extent, in the same way Jem has the right not to like black men, Gina has the right to be offended by whatever the hell she likes...it's when BB steps in and starts taking sides where it went primarily wrong.
On the other hand Gina needs to be more carefully throwing serious accusations around willy-nilly. I thought She was wrong to tell the rest of the HM's that Jem had been racist before discussing it properly with Jem and even BB.

This thread is about Gina being ageist and it's true it is not a crime to to be ageist, sadly.
Being racist also has to be proved though, Jemima made a comment not dismissing black people as friends, housemates, work colleagues or anywhere social in general just that her preference was not be in a romantic relationship with them.
It is,to me wrong to deem that preference as any kind of racist act.
I said ageism isn't a criminal act in agreement with Ammi's original statement as to that.
However, it should be, at the very least, inappropriate to be ageist against a fellow housemate.
You could get into a lot of bother if you highlighted age against someone in a workplace so I see this as double standards by BB.

After that though she said she meant that they just don't attract her. It's never the type of guy she's ever gone for. Just like we all have preferences on relationships. Particular things turn us on/off.
You've taken that a bit out of context.

Except you can be racist without hating black people.
Jade Goody, I'm sure didn't have an active dislike or hatred for black people or Indians but her behaviour and language was racially offensive.
Racism can be born out of ignorance and just having an empty head.
Jemima is not a racist person as far as I can tell, but her brainless blabbering is offensive because she doesn't think logically about the crap spilling out of her mouth.
Not so much about what she finds sexually attractive but making assumptions about other people's preferences based on the colour of their skin.

But yeah what marsh said, she was just flapping her gums. she actually said blond blue eyed guys initially I thought to gina?
Jemima was so flustered she didn't express herself very clearly, the rest of the house having first being influenced negatively by gina were scared to comment.

I think since they have an ex Detective in there as to Dan, they should have asked him, would he have cautioned or arrested Jemima for that comment as being a racist one.

Awww BD, she didn't put it like that. Someone said Jemima was backed into a corner (Vicky, I think...) and that's how I saw it. Gina called her a racist long before that comment was made. It wasn't the most intelligent thing to say, but she threw it out there as a defence mechanism, I think and I don't believe that makes her racist.
Gina was spoiling for a fight. She decided she was going to bring up the whole thing and make it a racist issue long before Jemima made the "dating white men" comment.
