View Full Version : Is Jackie 'jolly hockey sticks' popular?

She is getting on my last nerve with her 'I'm so with the young 'un's' and so energetic' and her dancing about like a carthorse on crack.
I bet she's the life and soul of the Womans Institute and bakes cakes for the 'bring and buy' and insists that she is included in her daughters parties to ply the young un's with wine and dips. She's a big galloping bore. Please tell me she isn't as popular as she seems to be.

Why you giving her such a hard time?

I really like her, seems fun and up for things which is great.

I don't understand the dislike?

You seem to have a problem with someone her age sitting, talking and having a laugh with her daughter's age group. What's wrong with that?

Should we all be segregated into little groups based on age?

She doesn't seem eager to be "with the young uns" she's just a lively person who's up for the tasks and whole experience. Something lacking from Big Brother the last few years.

Edit - wow, didn't realise I was such a big supporter, but yeah, back off.

Jackie's great, much needed positivity around some of the misers who seem intent on causing drama.

She's definitely my favourite from those who aren't the 'big characters' so Gina and Sallie.

She's fun and has already had some good moments, last night when she was like 'Michael you are the only one nominating' lol, bless her.

What's the jolly hockey stick types?

Your post is all presumption on who you presume she is out of the house. Nothing based on her in the house.

She's living with this younger crowd she's going to "hang" with them. But they're all adults, I don't see the problem.

It's called liking or disliking certain HM's. Simple really. I dislike Jackie, you like her. Maybe she'll grow on me, maybe you'll end up not so fond of her. I think at this stage we base our preferences a lot on who certain people remind us of in our real lives or who we think we could relate to.
Jackie (so far) reminds me of a 'jolly hockey stick' type - a type who is all 'surface' and not much else. Endlessly jolly and sporty. Not a type I could relate to long term. And her dancing made me cringe - she looked like a demented carthorse. Ugh.

Jackie seems lovely to me! She's getting involved participating having a laugh and I don't understand what you mean about desperate to hang out with the young ones? she doesn't seem desperate at all. At least she's not sitting in a corner quiet and boring!

I'm really liking Jackie at least she getting involved with everyone & not isolating herself from the group, like a lot of the other older HM's have done in the past. Her & Dan her definitely are becoming by far my favourite HM's this year.

I'm 50/50 with her, the task last night was good, Charlie played it really well. Not over keen on all the dancing, but she seems like she could be a good influence in the house can't have them all bitching and moaning.

I think she is great in the house and she really gets into whatever she is doing or expected to do.
I said on another thread, she has more get up and go about her than a good few of the younger housemates, that's great to see and I find her really entertaining.

I quite like her as she is not afraid to get involved but it must be said that at times, she tends to go OTT for the cameras, probably because she has gone in there promising so much and doesent want to disappoint. The only thing that annoys me about her is her hair style, its borderline ugly.

Not to go against the tidal wave of Jackie love or anything, but I find her irritating. She's too energetic but doesn't seem to have much conversation. So far anyway.

Yes I noticed that too, she strikes me as one of those people who follows the camera man around at a night club, desperate to get in all the photos.

"Jolly Hockey Sticks" refers more to social class. Don't you like her because you think she's posh, or because she's older than you? She's not my favourite but your hatred seems a little excessive. Lucky you're not ever going to get any older.

It's just your OP was about who you think she is outside the house, not actually based on her in the house. Just a bit bizarre is all.

You seem to dislike her for who she is and can't change more than what she's done; her social class, her age etc.

What hatred? Steady on there. She irritates me because she's way over the top, she's trying too hard, and her dancing is embarrassing. She's not a type I would gravitate to in my real life. Simple as that.
I dislike Salli too. Should I defend my right to that also? Are we not allowed our opinions now without being accused of some dark ulterior motive?
Watch out people. Don't say you dislike anyone without thinking long and hard and be ready to explain yourself in great detail.

It's not the fact that you dislike her, it's your reasons. She's old and she's trying to interact with younger people. Oh NO! And she's "over the top"... whereas most of them are so shy and retiring, right?

You can dislike whoever you want. I don't particularly like Jackie myself, but this is a forum, so expect people to disagree and question you.

I didn't say she was old. I didn't say she shouldn't interact with young people. I was referring to the WAY she was with the young ones - OTP, trying too hard, her maniacal dancing.
Do you look for hidden meanings every time anyone expresses a dislike of someone? I expect disagreement and debate, not the third degree.

People are allowed to express an opinion here, try not to feel too intimidated, this place is a bit like the BB house in many ways, it can get intimidating if you let it, but it can also be very interesting and enjoyable imo.

Why are you responding on a forum if you don't even properly read/comprehend the posts you are quoting? I clearly stated that I expected 'disagreement and debate'. Therefore the chances are that you didn't properly read/comprehend my first post either and hinted at classism and ageism where none whatsoever existed. Not cool. Talk about the PC police. Whew!
