View Full Version : Does a housemates appearance effect your feeling towards them?

Be honest, I know for some of you it does (in a good way or a bad way).

it does on first impressions. though when they're in the house and I've seen enough of their personality to judge it starts to become irrelevant.
I think sometimes if I like a housemate they become more attractive and vice versa too :suspect:.

No, I judge them on their actions.

Absolutely not. The shallow nature of many BB fans on here makes me extremely sad for the human race at times. To me personalities are beautiful.

Honestly I'd be lying if Hazels appearance didn't initially help her be my favourite in the beginning, but that kind of superficiality doesn't last long.

I try to ignore it really.

Nope I try to judge them on personality and how they act in the house

I pick up on little things though like I think Wolfy needs to brush her teeth and Gina's hair is awful but I wouldn't say things like that make me like them or dislike them as hm's.

It shouldn't do but I know that I'd be lying if I said no lol. I mean, I'd still like/dislike them regardless of their appearance but it does probably enhance or strengthen my views either way (more so in terms of who I like, when I dislike people I don't tend to use their appearance against them)

Tbh, if they're ugly it makes me a bit, for lack of a better word, uncomfortable and it keeps me from really getting to know them for a few days. I don't immediately dislike them, I just get a bit distracted and end up not listening to what they have to say.

housemates who look for cheap attention and shock with their appearance often turn out to be uber bores

No, I always try to form an opinion of housemates more on what they say and do.

I have been in the company of people considered very unnattractive according to others, who are likely some of the nicest people you could meet.
By the same token, I have seen those who are almost magazine model types who are the cruellest and most arrogant people you could have the misfortune to come across.

For me how a person is, what they think, what they stand for and say and do are vastly more important than appearance.

No I wait to see what there like as HM, I couldn't care less what type of clothes they wear.

I want more from a housemate than the way they look.
from a hetro man's point of view I don't watch bb for the women that go in, of course there will be times when someone will catch your eye, but if its only looks they have to offer then im not interested in keeping them in, just for the chance of seeing some flesh!

yes it does make a difference, but it's not the only nor the most important factor. It's what people do with how they look that makes them attractive or unattractive to me.

I'll be very honest, I do usually support the black people every year because I am black myself and I enjoy supporting the ethnic miniorities who are like myself. *no one call me racist or anything, cos I support white people too* I also find that he black housemates can be more controvesial and entertaining, so I guess I can justify my actions too.

Just because I support the black housemates doesn't mean I dislike the white housemate, as a lot of my favourite housemates have been white, but usually for the first week or so, my favourites are usualy black.

No not at all. I'm only interested how they are as a housemate.

How many people are ACTUALLY going to admit that it does? Further, how many people are actually aware that it does?

it depends on the forum member!

yes definitely.

I don't like to see ugly housemates picked on by good looking housemates. I definitely have more sympathy for the uglies.

I think that was why so many people sided with the outsiders last season, because it seemed like the good looking housemates picking on the ugly housemates.

Honestly yes. I know it's awful! However to redeem myself once I see their personalities come out, my opinions sometimes change and they become more attractive to me!

Not in the least. My faves have ranged from not-so-good looking to pretty good looking to smoking hot. If the personality and humor is not there, I am out. We get to watch all of them, attractive or not. For example, I'm not having a difficult time waiting for the Olivia Wilde look-alike to become more hysterical, but I'm loving me some Woooofy! Love them both, but I'd pick Wolfy to move on because she "moves" me more on the emotional level. It depends what these people are doing for you(in edits.)

If Wolfy looked like Hazel, but behaved in exactly the same way, would Wolfy be so popular?

I don't think so.

I think Wolfy is more popular because she is ugly, so she get's more sympathy.

Imagine if a white person said that jesus christ they would be dragged over hot coals.
Im white so i usually support white people you would get jumped on by PC nobheads :joker:
What if i made a comment about black people being loud and irritating is that ok?
(Im not racist or anything sometimes i support black people too)

That would be jumped upon as being racist yet you feel free to say those things? this is a ****ed up world we live in.

100% agree. If Wolfy was drop dead gorgeous she wouldn't get the reaction she's got so far.

I think that although it seems superficial we do make first impressions based on looks... that's just normal behavior.
Not in a negative way though, I expected wolfie to be very grounded and not easily influenced by others......wrong.

I think everyone is influenced but would prefer not to be.
If you used public transport most, wouldn't sit next to the man that reeks of stale urine. Who also has knotted hair and talks to themselves.
If most were going to a garden party with the Queen and Sallie was there dressed like she was in the house you'd think their was something wrong with her.

That's right. We all have prejudices.

I knew I would get comments like this, but at least I'm being honest. No point denying it when it's true.

No point denying it when it's true. There is nothing wrong with what you said but if the roles were reversed it becomes an issue im not having a go at you in any way just at the one sided way in which these things are perceived by people with a chip on their shoulder.

I think looks certainly do affect how you perceive the housemates.

Sallie could be tagged as chavy. Gina could be tagged as uptight. Hazel could be tagged as glamorous. Wolfy could be tagged as dirty.

Sure it's very stereotypical but we all do it. Looks are always judged. Until you understand the person looks is all you have to go by.

BB is all about personalities.

Yeh it is, those who are put in purely for looks (and too many still are) are often quite boring. Many of the young casual audience probably do just go by looks though.

Well in all honesty,a bit,BUT,I hope they turn me round, unfortunately the likes of Sallie always prove me right,i have this notion girls who dress and look like that are shallow, rude and ignorant, and I've not seen one yet who's proved me wrong,I also always feel abit sorry for the big ones that aren't so attractive as things ARE based on looks in the media,I usually root for whoever I think has a raw deal on there no matter what they look like though,if that makes sense.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I personally don't have an issue with people's personal preferences, as long as they don't become hateful towards that person just because of their looks.
