Why on earth do I keep thinking of Alan Partridge and Louie Spence when I see those two?

I wonder if Dexter has a bit of a crush on Dan. Or is he just trying to get him on side ? :suspect:

Actually Dexter said on the highlights tonight that if he wanted in effect a gay encounter then Dan is the guy he would go for.

I was surprised at that.

It's a manipulation tactic. Dexter is a con-man, and was hard at work tonight. He's attempting to control Dan through his sexual desires and flattery. It was interesting to watch Dan put his arm around Dexter, and then mess his hair as one would a child, to show dominance over him. Dexter allowed this, and I think this will be all the reassurance Dan needs to be comfortable that Dexter is not a threat to him. I do not believe Dan will nominate Dexter this week, which is the outcome Dexter was looking for.

Dexter was also working his game by giving a speech to Daley (which was really directed to the viewing audience) about wanting to "repay his debt to society" by giving away most of the prize money. It was a telling detail that he said he'd need £20k of it to plow into his business. A guy who claims to have spent £121k on booze in a night and lost a million pounds gambling has to quibble over £20k? That detail further exposes how much he's trying to embellish his wealth. I think he's poorer than even I initially suspected (ie. no better off than middle class).

I'm not a fan of con-men, but on a certain level it's impressive how he tirelessly keeps his eye on the prize.
