I think what Sallie meant by the tom boy thing was that her overall outlook was more boyish, that she liked being in people's faces and didn't need to play passive games to get enough attention. She never got the chance to display the contents of her suitcase either.

it's not just Hazel. Charlie never really related much either way and even Gina was getting very chummy with Sal by the end too. I do agree there, I thought that was a little nasty of her...but it is big brother and sometimes these things happen. Sallie didn't want to put it on Wolfy but she wasn't really left with much choice seems to me.
