Big Brother 2013 has been helping to boost Channel 5 to become the fourth top rated channel.

While the viewing figures for this fourteenth series haven’t exactly been anything to scream about, they’re winning when it comes to competition from its main rival, and the former home of the show.

Channel Four ditched Big Brother in 2011, citing a “creative renewal” in its programming.

But that creativity has so far seemed rather lacking, as while a documentary about a bloke’s ten stone testicles proved popular, the channel has struggled to attract viewers most nights.

On Thursday, Channel 5 was ahead of Channel Four for the whole evening, with only one of Four’s programmes breaking the million viewer barrier all day.

It left Channel 5 a full 1 percentage point ahead in the shares, boosted by the 500,000 viewers watching Bit On The Side from 11PM.

The highlights shows have so far hovered around 1.3 million mark, putting this year’s series on par with last year’s figures, while the Celebrity versions of the show in January and August usually perform even better.

Channel 5 has the rights to the show until 2014, and we can’t help but if at least some nights, Channel Four regrets letting go…

I'm hoping this means that Channel 5 will keep the rights to Big Brother for a few more years, or if they let it go then hopefully Channel 4 will take it back and regret their decision to axe it.

Also last night...

Eviction got 1.53m which I thought was quiet poor compared to last week, but MPD got 1.16m.

EVen though BB ratings are not as high as they used to be, you can't deny that it is still a profitable show for channels such as C5 or C4.

Lol at 'creative renewal', C4 has lost its identity. What even is its flagship programe?

100% good news.m It may have been done 300k from last week (but last week was the best eviction rating for a regular series on Ch5). The 1.53m is actually still higher than most Ch5 regular BB evictions. The rating looks better compared to MPD.

Isn't C4 branded as Channel Four?

This is great news for us BB fans. And I must say that Channel 5's BB is far superior to the channel 4 versions. Love Emma, love Rylan, love that the housemates have been more imaginatively chosen this year.

Consistently baffled that BB ratings are considered bad when it's every night and it still beats alot of shows

It's how they're branded. Channel 5 was called just 'Five' until recently

And all the c4 shows they have tried do not get as many views as BB does.

i bet c5 peeps in the suits are cracking out the champagne.

but yeah i agree channel 4 have really lost there innovation (kinda like apple in a way for me) the only credible thing they have over next 3 months is the final skins,
