I know he gossips...I know he thinks he has it all sussed... but that comes from his background of being in the police force. HOWEVER...he makes a lot of sense in his character judgements. He has Callum to a tee....this man must stay...he is an open book and does not hold back...KEEP HIM IN.

Why would it be boring without him? He doesn't bring drama, he gets involved in it. He's not really that outspoken, only when he can't get his own way or he doesn't like the fact someone has said something about him. He acts like a very insecure spoilt brat, and he can be very patronising. Sometimes you need to get certain people out to bring forth a better dynamic in the house.

Dan's great. I think the people in the house finding him too 'intense' are insecure and lack the self confidence to cope with 'normal' people like him.

Wolfie is too arrogant and deluded, the twins are 'too young' (pfft) and thick, Callum is a liar, psychological bully and a bitchmade creep and can't handle being around someone with enough brains/life experience to see through it.

I am with you rusticgal, I have liked him from day 3 really.

You will find it hard going defending him on here though so I wish you the best of luck with that.

Glad you like him though,it's nice to get a fairer balanced view of him than all the get Dan out chants and the multi numerous hate threads made as to him from those who don't even want him there anyway..

I love dan, he has everyone in the house pegged his presence in the house is huge. Wolfy is scared to death of him not because he is 'bullying' but because he can read her like a book.

I think he's great, he's totally turned it around for me. I had him as my least favourite a week ago.

He brings so much more to the house that half of them and that's why he's grown on me.

I hope it's Wolfy that goes, but in all honesty I hate the fact that all four housemates are involved in most of the trouble that goes on in there.

I think he would annoy me if I had to to live with him in the BB house, he is very moany and does tend to just keep going on and on about stuff for too long.
However I get the feeling that the house is driving him mad and that he is probably much more laid back and less easily annoyed on the outside world. I heard him saying things like 'I shouldn't have said that', 'this house is crazy', 'why can't I just sit on the fence like everyone else?!'.

I think it's messing with his head and he just can't seem to hold back and bite his tongue over even little things. Afterwards, he does seem a bit annoyed with himself for getting involved in an argument or for moaning/saying anything in the first place.
I also remember how laid back, calm and in control he behaved in the first day or 2. He just seemed so down to earth and not at all overly dramatic and moany. As I said, I think he he's probably calmer and more reserved/in control in his emotions on the outside but is slowly going crazy in there!

A lot of the time I'm thinking, 'for god's sake Dan, quit while you're ahead and just shut up!' other times I'm in full agreement with him - for example the Jemima argument and also with Wolfy's lying.

He does seem funloving and lighthearted with people he likes. I also think he's kind to people who are genuinely upset, and does seem to want to keep the peace between people if he can.

Don't think he's a bad person, just very, very annoying at times! I think he's a good housemate. :spin:

I love Dan because he, out of all the HM's is the most REAL. He is always just himself and doesn't alter his personality or behaviour even when he knows that being himself could be detrimental to his chances of staying in the house.
He's a born sleuth and he knows that it is causing problems for him but he isn't reining himself in and sucking up just to gain brownie points and get people off his back. He's no game player. He is unrelentingly HIM and I admire that.
He goes with his instincts and says what he thinks...but I haven't seen him being unkind or deliberately undermining anyone.
I think he has a big heart and is quite sensitive. I bet if someone genuinely broke down and needed help Dan would be the one to really feel for them and be there. Watch this space....

I see him differently. I like him a lot and see many good qualities in him. He's obviously a love/hate character which means he's a great BB housemate! Your dead right, he's by far the most intresting character in there, he is my favourite HM this year, & I think he is spot on most of the time about people opinions & things they do & say in the house, I would love to see him win, but sadly I don't think that will happen.:bawling:

What,by the way has being gay got to do with anything as to his role as a Detective actually, not just a police officer.

Also as he has been involved with the Jimmy Saville case, then clearly he will have had a pretty good record of his time in the force too to be so.

Dan is great especially without Hazel hanging round his neck but he really needs to keep it together now and make the most of his time in the house. Forget about who is acting/gameplaying, let the viewers decide on that.

The ONLY thing I don't like about Dan is his Diva outbursts. Sometimes I think he overreacts to situations.

As for his inquisitiveness, I think it's just him and his background. I don't think he's deliberately out to upset Wolfy with is questioning but without even realising it, he may still be married to the job.

He was my favourite on launch night - then I went right off him as he got on my nerves with his constant interrogation of people and hanging around with Hazel most of the time and his bitching - but I must say he is clawing it back now and he is up there with Dexter as one of my favourites again.

I'm not convinced Dan is truly the Alpha male of the house yet. I guess he has it now, but to be fair, nobody else has really challenged him. It'll be interesting to see what happens when he gets really called at some point. He's pretty good at criticizing others but will he be able to take it when someone really has a go at him? We saw last night that he can't even handle getting a simple nomination without playing the victim card and then pressing for what he deems a 'valid' reason. Then when he gets a reason he runs to Gina for validation.

I think people are surprised by how alpha dan is because he's camp and the other straight men are so weak. Daley has admitted he's no leader, Sam is a cowering wreck who hid under the duvet whenever Jemima tried to expand his winkie and Calum is an obsequious weed who would compliment you if you punched him in the jaw. Dexter likes to wear stockings for men on web cam. Nuff said. Yes Dan is camp (but not rylan or bb2 brian levels of camp) but authoratative, domineering and has a strange masculinity despite being slightly mincey.

MatthewS

Part of being an alpha male is commanding respect. Do you think the housemates actually respect Dan? Or do they just let him do as he pleases because they don't want to get on his bad side and be bitched about, or interrogated?

Yep, Hazel, Sophie, Daley, Jackie, Charlie, Sam, Gina, and Dexter (said he found Dan charismatic and attractive) have all at one point or another complimented Dan. Daley even admitted in DR that Dan was the leader and uttered some crap that he himself leads from the back.

Only Joe and Callum have major Dan issues, Jack I think has a crush but knows Hazel has MORE chance of sleeping with him.

Sam actually told Dan that he respected him post-nominations.

Jackie sees Dan as the only other 'adult' in the house when she shared with him that she sees the others as school kids including charlie.

Its hard to figure this kind of stuff out only seeing the show and not actually being in the house. To me Dan is the one who acts like a little school girl, always gossiping, over analyzing the littlest details, unable to take criticism. It's entirely possible though that those in the house might see him differently though.

Most of us loathe Wolfy, she's probably one of the most popular in the house, reverse this for Gina.

Even Jackie speaks to Dan with more respect than she does to Charlie. Sophie has gone to Dan for advice and Hazel spent the first 2 weeks conferring with Dan.

The only people who didn't respect Dan at all are Joe, Wolfy and Jemima.
