View Full Version : Are we more open to non-nicey wicey HMs e.g. Gina, Rex, Speidi, Aaron etc

There was a time when the non-nicey wicey HM would have been kicked out ,thrown out (BB1 Nasty Nick) or had no chance of winning as bad guys never win.
However, over the last couple of years I've seen a shift away from the niceys who are often bland and towards the anti-heroes, villains, stirers and game-players e.g. Rex, Aaron, Gina, Dexter, Speidi, Caroline, Deana. BB12 Aaron's win was a major BB land-mark in terms of the types who win. Mark probably would have won (no problems with that) but given he absconded many assumed it would be nicey wicey Alex or Tom.
There seems to be an admission that the anti-heroes provide a lot of drama and instead of talking about them and then voting them out we are - THANKFULLY - keeping them in.
Gina and Dexter would have been fully evicted by now in the very early series.
There aren't really any options, even Alex and Tom got bitchy when it suited them. The "nice" players of BB1-5 would never even make it into the house today, so there is no longer a true nice one to root for. Even last year, while Adam and Luke primarily had the moral high ground, they weren't pristine.

BB3 had four housemates in the final who ranged from extremely bitchy (Jade) to just bitchy when it suited (Kate at times did but mostly about Jade). None of them were squeaky clean and I wouldn't want them to be. I don't really think it's a new thing, people have always whinged about the "big characters" leaving early.
Yeah, 'villian' types have a good chance of taking the crown now. I think it reflects the general lowering of values in our society.
I admit that I like them to stay in the house until near the end for the sake of entertainment, but I much prefer a nice (but not boring) person to actually win.

But nice people by and large - be definition - tend to either be boring or less interesting than nice people. Sophie and Charlie are nice girls but duller than minx Hazel.

According to BB Charlie woke up today with a new attitude to stirr things up, I guess Dexter and Gina's Q&A session with her re: the DR has made her rethink her place in the house.

I think you can no longer bb 100% Cameron and Rachel rice would struggle. Dan who is essentially a decent guy has shown a nasty side, would fare better than a couple of previous winners.

Aaron did nothing to be in the list of ,non nicey hm8s ?? he was a lovely man ,and to rank him with the same brush as Speidi and the rest is a downright insult !!

dont get that list. arron deana dex & rex even are all normal .
anti heros would be people like charlie or grace or sallie etc
Non-nice "villain" house mates are still at high risk with vote to evict. However, instead of villainous, Gina and Dexter were turned into under dogs early on. This dynamic is very powerful with the public. Throw in a lot of humour from Gina and its a good combo.

Thing about all of those were they weren't 'nice' as you say, but the audience could get behind them because they were always on the right side vs the horrible housemates. For example Rex against Jen and that horrible lot, even if he was a prick himself. A loveable great prick :worship:
Well, Dexter and Aaron at least.

Aaron is the odd one out there , he wasn't nasty at all , he was a fab housemate as was Rex who was just naughty and caused lots of drama.

I think by not nicey nicey the op means Aaron and Rex were not like Cameron and Rachel. These are the nice, boring ones. :joker:

It's more about the "underdogs" than the villains. The people on the outs are nearly always the people who have the biggest fanbase.

Deana was not a villain or an anti-hero? Please don't group her with Rex, Aaron, and Speidi, that's ridiculously insulting to her.

she's no where near as good. She was boring and very overrated
Deana was not a villain or an anti-hero? Please don't group her with Rex, Aaron, and Speidi, that's ridiculously insulting to her.
She was the underdog, though, to the point that even her few truly bitchy moments were mostly overlooked, except by those who were on the "hate the underdog" bandwagon.

Aaron wasn't a bad or nasty guy, im getting a little fed up with this lie about him.
But it is long overdue that non under the radar, PC, sweet, lovely natured and BORING HM's were puched down the pecking order in favour for more entertaining and opinionated HM's.
Rachel Rice was the nicest person in the world but was the dullest and worst winner for BB.

The new voting system has saved Gina and Dexter.
The best housemates are intelligent - Victor, Aaron and Dexter.

Yeah, to them more like :idc:
I like Deana, but she's nowhere near a GOAT house-mate, all of those mentioned, she and Lydia were just the best in their series because everybody else was ****ing abysmal.
Aaron is the odd one out there , he wasn't nasty at all , he was a fab housemate as was Rex who was just naughty and caused lots of drama.
I hated Aaron, because to me he was cunning and manipulative and cold.
I don't mind nasty HM's if they have a warm streak.
Warmth and openness are everything to me in a person, but that's just my preference.

I wouldn't say Sallie was nicey-wicey.It is possible for good people to be just as tough and outspoken as the scumm* ones.
But for some reason most seem to not realise that good people can cause drama and be entertaining too.
They seem to treat good people who are outspoken with contempt as they are "holier than thou" etc yet they worship people who treat others like cra*.
I'd far rather have a laugh at scu* getting put in their place by outspoken good people than I would watch scu* treat good people with absence of feeling.
