View Full Version : "Guesses everything right!! Good detective!!" perception of Dan.

This is one thing that really annoys me about some peoples' perception of Dan.
Firstly he was right about Michael and that is because it was SO DAMN OBVIOUS. Not only did Dan correctly guess that Michael was a mole but so did Sallie, in fact I think she may have even suggested it first. As well as this several other HMs clearly had doubts but were more internalizing (Gina for example).
Then he suggested that Gina and Dexter may have gone to a secret house. This is no great call when you are just throwing out ideas all the time, anybody remember how much he went on about Wolfy being an actress? Of course if youre gonna doubt everything youre gonna get some things right. Plus if youve watched a few series of BB you know this sort of stuff happens.
I dont like Dan, I think he reads people/situations relatively well (e.g. Jackie, J&J and Callum most vulnerable this eviction - but personally Id think this is obvious, D&G have been saved numerous times, cheered and voted in the SH!) but he gets too much credit for "being able to solve things" within the house. The fact he was a cop and solved crime has clearly gone to his head.
Anybody else agree?
It just bugs me when I read posts (here and FB) saying how much they love Dan because he knows everything that is happening, no he does not...
I completely agree with you Jords. Dan is not particularly clever I don't think, it's just that he's very vocal about his opinions and expresses them more than others, or bitches about it more like. Worst housemate ever, such a sly and manipulative person, it makes me angry when I watch the show

No,sorry but I don't agree at all with you Jords.
Then again you wouldn't agree on anything as to Dan with me either.

I only get angry at Dan when he tries to control a situation, other than that I just dont think hes my type of person at all and dont enjoy watching him. I wouldnt say he was sly or manipulative just self-righteous and patronising.
He tries to portay this happy, camp, bouncy persona at times and its just very annoying unlike other HMs before such as Kemal. Almost a bit try-hard.

Well, when I say he's sly/manipulative i'm mainly hitting at the fact that he easily influences people and uses that power to target people like Wolfy or Callum. I was going to make a thread about this later today actually though, so i'll be interested to hear about what you think.
As for the trying too hard thing, I completely agree. That's what irritates me the most I think. He's so persistent on being a 'nice guy' when really he's so bitchy its unreal. And yeah again I agree, he's definitely not my kind of person and I would avoid him at all costs in the real world.
Well to be fair Michael being a mole and the Safe House have been the two major twists so far, with Michael then Dan was the most consistent with his claims whereas Sallie went back and forth a bit more and the others didn't really think it all. I do think he is a genuinely good judge of things, a couple of other examples would be when Michael was in the DR quite early bitching about all the various housemates and he was the first to say 'this isn't real' and then more recently with Daley's ejection he was pretty much the only one arguing it was real when all the others were convinced it was fake, admittedly he had a bit more insight by being close to Hazel but still, at that point she hadn't revealed anything

I don't like Dan because he susses everything and is intelligent, I like him because he contributes. Having said that while I accept your points I do think he's perceptive and is relatively good at working things out, whether he's watched a lot of Big Brother before and that's the reason or not, it's still pretty good
I can imagine he was a good detective, and I do think he's a nice guy but you can see the policeman pouring out of him at times. His conduct in arguments is often aggressive and abrasive and he seems to patronise or belittle the other person, much like how I'd imagine he'd act in a police interview
Good to watch though

I think he's paranoid and overthinks things, I don't see why it's seen by some people as a good thing. He's a really unpleasant hypocrite.

I was gonna mention the bit in bold in the OP and figured itd get too long. Again Hazel had told him info about what happened, he looked at her during the announcement, she wasnt claiming it was fake and looked quite shocked/guilty and then he knew that it was pretty serious and most likely correct.
People think he has magic powers but really.

He can influence because the HMs are giving him this awful sort of respect, I would soon tell him to **** off to be honest, much like Sophie almost did tonight.

Sophie rightly raised a point she didn't like as to how Dan had spoken at the time the ball was found.
Much more to her credit with no nastiness from her at all, she said Dan had done right to get Hazel away and talk to her on his own before saying anything to the house.
He also said he hadn't meant for it to come over as bad as it did.
I feel sure Sophie will accept he was in the main prioritising and looking out for Hazel.
Well done to Sophie then who I also doubt will hold anything against Dan as to this episode at all too.
