I do find the tennis ball thing a bit strange.

If not, can you get close enough to the house to accurately throw a tennis ball in?
If you can, how would you know it's gone in till it's shown the following day on HL show? Surely you would take more than 1 with the same message and throw a few for good measure. They haven't received 2 with the same message.

Not necessarily, unless they are very thick they will have cottoned on by now that Gina and Dexter are fairly popular they have seen off 2 HMs and been voted into the safe house, alongside that it is "secrets and lies" and they are all paranoid anyway they will not know whether to believe it or not.
