The Simpsons and Family Guy are to cross over next year, it has been announced.

An episode of the Seth MacFarlane cartoon - airing in the US in autumn 2014 - will see the Griffins going on a road trip to Springfield and meeting their yellow-skinned counterparts.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the two families will get along well, with Stewie impressed by Bart's pranks, and Marge and Lois bonding.

Homer, meanwhile, engages in debate with his new "albino" friend Peter regarding which beer is better, Pawtucket or Duff.

Fox has released 'quotes' from some of the characters, giving their thoughts on the upcoming episode, with Peter Griffin saying: "Fox hasn't spent this much money since they took Simon Cowell tight T-shirt shopping."

"Finally I can get my hands on this guy!" Homer Simpson commented.

Simpsons voice actors to appear include Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith and Hank Azaria.

Awesome :D it's good that it's a Family Guy episode though, hopefully the Simpsons characters can be a bit ruder that way

If I die before this episode airs, I will not be happy at all, even if I go to heaven

It'll probably be awful, the shows are just too different for it to work well. It'll end up being really forced I think.

Sorry but I'm not refreshing the page waiting for you to reply to me, it took my 20 seconds to come up with that gold, just like this post, even though it is to a message posted 10 hours ago.

I am amazed The Simpsons producers agreed to this. That wasn't funny or in context, it was just uncomfortable.

I hate the way Homer's voice sounds these days. It's higher pitched and over dramatic. One of the reasons I can't stand the newer episodes. So like that other poster said it will probably come across as a bit forced
