In all seriousness he couldn't backtrack and smash the box, as he has already said he NO LONGER has feelings for Charlie and to coin his phase, Dexter can have IT. It would have looked pretty bad for him if he smashed the box as well, as Dex wouldn't have got the prize and Coach would look like even more of a tit than he does now.
