No surprise that Callum has befriended the youngest/most vulnerable HM in Sam. He needs to be needed and no-one else is buying into it.

I'd say that's a spot-on assessment. Callum is a sinking ship and is continually becoming more cringeworthy with each passing day. When he was doing his role of the Psychologist, I couldn't help but be reminded of a young Patrick Bateman... so capable of seamlessly sliding into whatever character persona that suits his interests at any given time.

He's got sociopathic tendencies if I've ever seen it... and I--my friend--am a pretty good judge of character. :xyxwave:

A comment on DS :

Not sure about the needs to be needed bit, he strikes me more as someone who has had to look after someone (parents perhaps?) and doesn't know how to switch off.


The repeating of things, the fact that he has to fill silence. reminded me of looking after someone infirm when you're the only carer.

I believe it's genuine on Sam's part because he's young and naive. I think Callum is being opportunistic. That's not to say that there's NO WAY Callum is being genuine in his friendship... I just find it highly unlikely... lol. :dance:

If I had to call it, I'd say that initially it'll be Sam that pursues the friendship, post BB... and if Callum is a legitimate friend at all then he will carry on... but again, I don't see it happening. I think Callum is seeking solace wherever he can... (i.e. a young, impressionable, geographically isolated (and therefore sheltered) man).

That's the entire basis of philosophy. Finding what rings 'true' to one's 'self' and projecting it forward. Doesn't mean everyone agrees... just means that popular opinion tends to be influential...

I never said he was the youngest, I said he was impressionable. And while he is more than capable of deciding whom he wants to have a strong relationship with, the majority of the other housemates (along with the majority of the viewing public) find him to be dull, bland, and taxing in communication. He needs Callum as much as Callum needs him, although Sam's intentions are most-definitely more genuine.

I still don't even see this as being a "triangle" or "showmance" or whatever.

To begin with, Dexter is clearly more into himself than anyone else, male or female.

Then there's Charlie who has stated multiple times that she is not into Dexter 'that way'.

And Callum gets a bad rap. He's always just seems a bit playful with Charlie.

Let's get real for a minute... Charlie was brought on the show as half of a mother/daughter gimmick. On her own she's a bit dull and her "connection" to Dexter seems more like a means of not fading to the back of the house now that her mom's out and Callum is eternally at risk for eviction.

I feel like he's actually playing the "Dexter" game SO MUCH BETTER THAN DEXTER because he doesn't have that insecure, validation-seeking streak to suppress at every turn which always seems to come out in everything Dexter does.

Ugh. This show is addictive. :D
