Just the sort of old school convo (ie not part of a showmance, rivalry, bitching, nom talk SL) that rarely makes HL as C5 usually prefer to show whatever is part of top SL e.g. love triangle

Dan waffling on about how he hadn't really made the right career choice and only joined the police because of his son.
Got the impression Sam has never had a job although he's 24.

Of course he's had jobs.
They were discussing actual career paths.

How snobby. Work is work, especially in the current economy.

It is indeed, at least Sam is doing something, he should be applauded not derided.

I quite liked how Dan was giving Sam the good advice about not taking any old job and going with your passion, great advice, however, these days with such a shortage of jobs many people have to take what is going and can't pick and choose.

Good advise, but one hopes that Sam doesn't turn down work on the back of it, as like you say, there isn't the choices out there for everybody.

Not sure the advice is all that good. It's people thinking they are too good for some jobs that has led to about a million people from Eastern Europe working here while we have 2.5 million unemployed

I was merely making the observation that the sort of job he's doing is more likely to be done by someone in the school holidays but I do appreciate that probably from where it comes he doesn't have a great deal of choice and I'm certainly glad that he is not just drawing benefits as all too many young people are doing at present

It's not about people thinking they're too good for anything.
The basis of his advice was try to get into something you have a passion for/you enjoy doing. Life's too short to spend it in a job you detest. Which is fair enough.

It can't be easy for Sam as far as getting jobs is concerned. I bet as soon as the majority of prospective employees find out that he's 80+% deaf his chances of getting that job are pretty slim!
Even though employer discrimination is heavily legislated against it's still extremely common because it's so difficult to prove unfortunately.:bored:

That's a really strong point you have made and you are right although employers will go through the motions of interviewing and even shortlisting, the better jobs will go to someone else.
Really good point JTM45. Well said.

Yeah it was a nice moment. I'd prefer it if they showed stuff like this on the HLs more often.

Beano, they used to show this slice of life conversations all the time in earlier series, but bb7 really changed things and there was a move towards SLs e.g. showmance, rivalries etc. Now C5 almost exclusively focus on SLs and ignore these everyday discussions.

The truth is that not everybody can go with their passion, I'm not saying Sam can't but I'm talking in general. A lot of people just have to go with a job and that is the thing we should applaud to because that is what makes this world go around, the cleaners, the stock room assistans and so on. Chasing dreams does not work for so many people and I think that the whole BS about going for your passion is why the world is what it is nowadays. So many teens think they can all be models, bloggers and singers and not all can be.

I agree with that too.
There is far too much emphaisis put into the highlights programmes of housemates that have any kind of 'romantic' goings on,even when the whole romance thing is a total farce and nonsense.
They are still the things and people we see the most of,series after series.

It's not so easy to get a good job these days,Some people are grateful for what they can get.
