It was a point about semantics. It's quite simple: if you use the phrase 'for all their faults they're the straightest people there' that phrasing suggests that being straight is a positive attribute, because it has been posited as a 'saving grace' if you will next to their 'faults'.

For example: For all his faults, Dexter can be really witty at times. For all his faults, Dan was a level headed presence in the house.
