Gina Rio in fishy race debate
socialite Gina Rio was at the centre of a new race storm yesterday.
Charlie Travers, 27, said she looked like Angelina Jolie’s Disney character in the film Shark Tale.

The actress, 38, voiced a fish called Lola.

But Charlie admitted she wanted to say that Gina, 24, was “a black version” of the character, yet did not want to cause a race row.

Charlie said: “I did not want to say black.”

But when Dexter Koh, 28, claimed Gina was “mixed race”, she hit the roof saying: “I am black! It’s the right word to say.”

Her mother is black. Gina has the surname Reid (not Rio), which is Scottish not Spanish. Which leads to the suspicion that her dad may be of British origin, not Cuban.

We are all the same race anyway, all from the same place, initially, the rift in eastern africa so why do we have to continue with this talk of separate races ?

I understand the need for some groups who have been racially abused to remind people to stop it happening again, only when needed though,

but f g s we are all the human race from the same rift, we are only different colours or slightly different skull structures because different parts of that initial rift based group settled in different parts of the world for a bit

+ so got more direct sunlight + skin pigmentation than other parts of the initial group who settled in areas where there was less direct sunlight IE not so close to the equator.

Not being able to talk about race is racist as you think that there is something wrong with the colour of their skin and class them as different to the rest of us when we are all the same.

Only the fact her surname is British and from a photo it appears her mother is black (presumably Jamaican descent).

Mixed (mainly white /other) is often a way to create a hierarchy of superiority amongst non-white people so I congratulate Gina, Paula Patton (actress and wife to Robin Thicke), Halle Berry all label themselves black.
