Schizotypal personality disorder

A person with a schizotypal personality disorder is likely to have poor social skills and delusional thoughts, and behave in unusual ways.
Other symptoms include:

attaching undue and misguided significance to everyday events, such as thinking newspaper headlines are secret messages to them

believing in special powers, such as telepathy or the ability to influence other people’s emotions and actions

having unusual ways of speaking, such as long, rambling vague sentences or going off on a tangent

experiencing excessive anxiety in social situations, even if they have known a particular person or group of people a long time

Those last two just sound like character traits. Callum hasn't shown any sign of the first two symptoms.

Probably a nice chap in normal circumstances. The BB house may have brought out some undesirable traits.

Or it could be an act.

Blaming Dexter for making Charlie make Calum look bad when she bought up Sams boos

Pretty much everything he does

But I guess if everybody disagrees, I'll shut up

No I dont believe he is schyzotypal. That is a serious disorder and could not be managed in such an environment.I would also hope that BB wouldn't go that far and be that cruel in attracting viewers. I see him as Ronnie Corbett in that rather sick sitcom Yes Mother? with a domineering Mummy as Callum calls her and no or very little effective male role model. He seriously need assertiveness training. What was last nights diary room about? His new promised persona seems to be a cross between the Godfather and Roy Cropper. He will just go out and be creepily pathetic. What the hell is wrong with him ? Whilst his imagined nemesis Dexter just relaxes and gets on with it.Very sad really.Read he is also 36 not whatever age he purports to be.His friendship with Sam smacks of something ego boosting too.

Read he is also 36 not whatever age he purports to be

He says he's 28. Does look more like 36 though.

Got a bit jumpy when the housemates started talking about age and who was the oldest in the house. ;)

Two different things

I know, the post I linked was in the other thread, saying that I very much doubt Callum has a schizoid disorder, but is possibly on the autistic spectrum (lower end).

I didn't want to copy / paste the whole thing into a different thread, though.

What are the signs and symptoms of schizophrenia?

Delusions: These are false ideas. You may believe that someone is spying on you, or that you are someone famous.

Hallucinations: You see, feel, taste, hear, or smell something that is not real.

Disordered thinking and speech: When you talk, you move from one subject to another in a way that does not make sense. You make up your own words or sounds.

Lack of emotion: You lack facial expressions and do not express emotion.

Lack of drive or initiative: You have less ability to start and continue a planned activity.

Social withdrawal: You avoid gatherings with family and friends.

Cognitive symptoms: These may affect your attention, memory, and to plan and organize things.

Callum has at least four of these

These three can also be symptoms of certain forms of depression.

The problem (one of the problems) of trying to diagnose schizophrenia, is that schizophrenia is actually an umbrella term for a range of cognitive dysfunctions. Many of the symptoms of schizophrenia are also symptoms of other disorders. And some of the 'symptoms' are also present in people with no cognitive dysfunction at all.

I don't believe Callum has any sort of mental illness at all.

He isn't even THAT bad he just seems to be the latest housemate to be on the receiving end of the OTT hate that some people are capable of throwing at them.

Of course it's a 'Callum bashing' thread, lol and no he's not a schitzo.

I agree, I think he is not fully being himself but that applies to others in there too.

Out of the house, he is likely far more relaxed, of all the other housemates in the house,he is certainly not imagining that Dexter is at every opportunity now trying to belittle him or wind him up, he is totally right as to that.

He is bound to be a little paranoid in there and he likely has developed a lot of anger towards Dexter in the main and is smouldering but doing pretty well to keep it under wraps in the main.

If he is not able to feel able to really be himself then he will come across 'odd' at times but that doesn't mean all he is feeling is wrong or even what he is saying.

I like Dexter's tales but for the most part they are near all likely stories or lies,he though has perfected the art of doing that whereas Callum more than likely hasn't.

Maybe he is acting in part and he is a little more than uncomfortable with doing that but I still just think he gets misunderstood, that's all.

He does look uncomfortable sometimes Joey, but he must feel quite confused as to what Dexter is saying about him all the time,I thought Dexter completely out of order mocking Callums cooking, but you can bet he ate it,I just don't like that furtive little grin Dexter poses whenever he THINKS he has said something to put Callum down, but it seems it may work against Dexter if he carries on.

Anyone that moans at my cooking when I have done it,(to be fair very few do), get their plate taken away from them and told to go and get their own.

Again,I have to say,Callum took that really well despite Dexter trying to wind him up again.

nothing wrong with the above, fairly nice guy

Long as he stays in after Dexter, I dont mind

I would like to see you dealing with a psychotic patient LOL. However Psychiatrists do know how and we have to be grateful for that even though most of their time is spent writing prescriptions and ignoring the person in front of them. Psychology and Psychotherapy is a completely different subject, far too time consuming and expensive to be anything other than frowned upon, in the main, by Psychiatrists who believe themselves to be Gods.
