I quickly become very annoyed when someone doesn't acknowledge a kind gesture. I can not go through a door in any public place without holding it open for a person behind me and I'm always the one to let a person come through a door (in the opposite direction) before I take my step through.

Not saying thank you is unbelievably rude in my opinion, it costs absolutely nothing. The same when a car stops to let me cross the road, or while driving and someone gives way to me, I make a point of acknowledging their kindness and thoughtful way.

Think it's a bit rediculas to say that Sam hasn't thought for himself. Dexter is very rude in his everyday treatment of people. Aside from him sauntering through doors without so much of a gesture of thanks for the person holding it, he doesn't say please, thank you or even acknowledge people at times. Just one example was last night when he walked into the kitchen and Sofie said "you alright Dexter?" He didn't even look in her direction let alone acknowledge her in any way. He is a rude snake and Sam obviously see it.
