On Saturday 3rd August, 2013, I was a guest on the Channel 5 show Big Brothers Bit On The Psych. Another guest was Big Brother evictee Callum Knell.
Part of my remit as a regular contributor to the show is to express my own opinions. I am allowed and encouraged to say what I think, I have no company line to toe. Or indeed tow. In previous episodes I had made it clear that Callum Knell was not one of my favourite housemates by quite some way.
However, on this recent episode, I took things too far. My banter was inappropriate and crossed a line by quite some considerable distance. When Callum asked me for my opinion, I should not have used this as an opportunity to launch a personal attack on the gentleman. I should not have said what he did bordered on bullying. I should not have got angry in the way that I did. There were better ways of saying what I thought without losing my temper.
I behaved unprofessionally and inconsiderately. I have apologised privately to Mr.Knell and I am using this as an opportunity to apologise publically.
Thanks to everyone on Twitter and various internet forums who have provided constructive criticism of my performance on the show.
Apologies as well to the excellent host of the show, AJ, for putting her in an awkward position.
I shall continue to offer my opinion but I shall temper my behaviour.

Iain Lee

What do you think?

What do I think? I don;t think Iain said anything wrong.

To tell the truth, I do think Iain is going a bit nuts. But that has nothing to do with what he said to Callum.

I think if anything he went easy on Callum!
It's only because all 5 or so of Callum's fans are kicking up a stink on twatter or wherever they are that Iain is doing the gentlemanly thing and apologising, and because he doesn't want Callum to start crying next time he's on BOTS.

He spoke the truth every word was a fact and a reality. I feel let down that he has apologised to such a manipulative housemate.......

I don't really like the presenter but on this occasion he hit the nail on the head and was justified in saying every word he said.

Calum is busy manipulating all he meets. Especially the dumb studio audiences who clap like mindless trained seals. When asked if who he would save if all the hosemates were drowning he chose Sam and Gina a deliberate show of bitterness to Charlie just because she saw through him.

Calum is by far one of the nastiest manipulating housemates i have ever seen throughout the big brother series on both channel 4 and 5

Too right he should apologise

It's good to have an opinion, but he embarrassingly unprofessional and it became personal on someone who at most was a little irritating and cringey occasionally. Hardly a hanging offence

My view too, he went too far and came across extremely ignorant too.

Decent of him to apologise but I hope he thinks a bit more before opening his mouth.

Dearest Iain

How embarrassing for you. You thank fans for "constructive criticism" yet at the time loved the abuse you were receiving, you were lapping up the attention and have now blocked those same fans who you pretend to thank.

Obviously this is a forced apology you have been instructed to write by Channel 5 in order to keep your job on the Saturday show.

You must feel incredibly stupid now after bragging about your behaviour on the show and now having to do a complete U-Turn and apologise to someone you obviously hate from watching a heavily edited 45 minute entertainment show.

Humble pie.

If that's the case, that he was told to make an apology or else, then he should have refused.

Then we all would have known why he was sacked. And he could have written about it on his blog.

But I guess he was too frightened to do that. So he toed the line.

What a shame that Iain was forced to retract his very TRUE comments about Callum (cringing as I type). I remember being shocked at some things Iain Lee has said this series, usually of 'erection' type jokes. The Callum comments were harmless in my view.

He absolutely crossed a line on that show. Callum put himself forward as a contestant on a reality game show. he is not a professional in entertainment and whilst he put himself forward for possible mockery and abuse in the press and online, he deserved better from the makers and presenters of the show: they have a duty of care to all their housemates.

Iain Lee is a professional presenter with years of experience in a studio setting. To launch in like that was unprofessional and cruel.

I am glad he apologised. It was the right this to do.

I can't stand Iain Lee or Callum.
Iain frequently says 'outrageous' things for effect and often goes too far. His behaviour with Callum wasn't the first time he has crossed the line and it won't be the last (though I wish BOTS would get rid of him).
I strongly suspect that Callum complained and demanded an apology. He doesn't appear to take criticism well and hasn't much in the way of a sense of humour. Once someone offends him (like Charlies nomination) he isn't going to forgive or forget.
I wouldn't want to be around either of them. :suspect:

I wish iain had put callum in his place but he failed to do so....he just lost it and called him a bully instead....very poor and a lost opportunity....he should have started with calling him controlling, obsessive, calculating....domineering etc etc instead he lost the plot called him a bully and hung his head for 10 minutes...pathetic

I myself made a point of goading Iain Lee here on Saturday before the show knowing he probably reads these and other forums(which he verified in his grovelling apology).Callum knew what was coming telling him that he'd heard what had been said in previous shows and as I thought it was Lee who came off second best. But it's a tv.No harm a bit of needle to spice it up- much better viewing than the previous evictees shows.

They did exactly the same on eviction night. Criticised him then when he was sitting in front of them toned it right down. What does that mean ?? Making damn fools of HM'S IMO.

They toned it down when he was in front of them because the criticisms had been so vitriolic it would have been rude and cruel to treat him that way in person.

As it is he had to listen to himself being called a bully, manipulative, creepy, cringey, and as having a superman complex. He was asked if he understood why the other housemates thought he was fake, that his niceness was not genuine, that he was just playing a game.

Honestly I think some people here wouldn't have been satisfied unless AJ had held him down whilst Iain and Vanessa stamped on his head.

Have you watched BOTS? He has been torn to shreds by panelists and audience alike. Honesty is the only policy I am interested in. Two faced , back stabbing , double standards don't appeal to me one bit.It makes no difference to me if I like the HM or not.

Callum was acting like a complete knob and Iaonreacted. He had nothing to apologize for. This is the last nail in the coffin for any real exchanges on this show. Now we will be even more subjected to the auto cue script, the panel members who don't watch the show and the bloody audience who take their opinions from telly mix and the shut ins on digital spy. Iain lee has been the only watchable portion of the Saturday show. This is a real shame.
