Brazil v.s Germany/Spain in the final. Canīt see past that at the moment.
Typical other contenders: Netherlands, Italy, Argentina and Portugal. Maybe France. Even England if all goes well.
Potential Surprisers: Ghana, Japan, Ivory Coast, South Korea, Uruguay, USA, Iran and Russia.
No chance in hell: Bosnia, Costa Rica, Switzerland, Honduras and Australia
IMO.
But, of course itīs very, very early to say, before the draw and rosters are announced.
---------
Will be supporting Netherlands, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Colombia, Uruguay, Croatia and Mexico at least. And of course my very own sweep.

DId I say Belgium as a Dark Horse in the other thread? If I didn't I need to be slapped. Like Now.
*Gets Slapped by a Corgie*
I will keep a curious eye on Japan, they've continued to impress me since they hosted the World Cup with Korea.
Belgium will shock people tho
I think by the time the World Cup comes around Belgium will be tipped by many pundits to do well and will lose their dark horse status.

I don't see why Portugal and especially Spain can't do well in the conditions. Germany are robots too who can also do well.
Since 1954 - Czechoslovakia reached the final in Chile, Germany and Italy reached the final in Mexico, Holland reached the final in Argentina and they have all been beaten by South American teams, bad times.

Russia is the lowest ranked European team that qualified so more than likely they'll be put into Pot 3.

who're the top seeds gonna be then?

Drew.
03-12-2013, 04:27 PM
The draw sounds too confusing.. Only European teams can have two sides in a group so we could potentially get Spain, Chile and Japan
BBfanUSA
03-12-2013, 04:34 PM
Everyone's probably hoping Please be put in Switzerland's Group.
A guy elsewhere said that the Round of 16 will be just the South American and Euro teams. I beg to differ, I can easily see the US, Japan get in and Mexico and South Korea too.
Drew.
03-12-2013, 04:39 PM
An african side will hopefully make it out the groups
Ivory Coast > USA
BBfanUSA
03-12-2013, 08:44 PM
And Ivory Coast and Nigera and Ghana. To think that not a single CONCACAF or AFC can make (Although I do admit they're going to need a bit of help with the draw) it is a bit silly.
Also there will be a pot x, To ensure there's only 2 Euro teams per group they will be drawing one from pot 4 I think and then a Pot X from the seeded South America teams and they'll be put in the same group I think. The rest will be put into pot 1 if they're not drawn, basically the 9th Euro team will be the 8th team in the 2nd pot (With Africa/Unseeded S.American)
Fairest thing to do in my opinion.
Messi will never surpass Pele or Maradona in terms of greatness until he wins the World cup.
This is the best chance he'll get, on his home continent.

Brother Leon
06-12-2013, 01:16 AM
Prepare for the worst tbh. Got a feeling England are about to be dicked in terms of their group lol
Players who should definitely go to World cup (if fit)
L Baines
R Barkley
G Cahill
A Cole
S Gerrard
J Hart
P Jagielka
P Jones
A Oxlade-Chamberlain
W Rooney
A Townsend
T Walcott
D Welbeck
J Wilshire
Of the others
I don't even know who are the next best keepers.
K Walker and G Johnson are the only right backs I can name who are in with a shot.
C Smalling is likely to get a place as back up centre back, there's not much else out there.
In centre midfield, F Lampard will be turning 36 during that tournament, it would be disappointing that we have to call on a 36 year old (although Lamps wouldn't let us down), Carrick, i'm not convinced he's good enough at that level, we need a good ball winning holding midfielder in there, but not sure there's one about, was hoping Rodwell could be that man, but he's not proved it yet.
J Milner is a good footballer (but no World beater), he does give a bit of versatility and has tournament experience, so could be useful as a squad member.
Upfront we're seriously lacking at the moment, especially when you compare to the great strikers we've had such as Lineker, Shearer and Owen, and now we can choose from D Sturridge, A Carroll, J Defoe, R Lambert, none of those make me feel confident.
Drew.
06-12-2013, 01:23 AM
if fit then Sturridge and Rooney are the only 2 certain strikers.. no doubt Welbeck will be going and Carroll will most likely be fit by then so Roy will have to choose between him and Lambert.
If Sturridge was any good then Man City and Chelsea wouldn't have got rid, he's an average Joe, Andy Cole was a better striker then Sturridge is and Cole wasn't international class.
It's gonna be left up to Rooney to get us our goals in the big games.
Drew.
06-12-2013, 01:37 AM
Problem with City and Chelsea is that they had all the $$$ and instead of waiting for him to grow they got rid and wanted to buy strikers already in their peak.. Hes probably our best finisher along with Rooney.

I think Hodgson will go with Rooney Welbeck and so would I.

it'll either be Walcott, Townsend and Lennon or Walcott, Townsend and Ox
Walcott could even do a stint up top.

Sturridge Rooney >
Rooney will swing for him by his 4th poor angle shot.

King Gizzard

Roy wants a hard group no matter what he says, gives him an excuse to play his ''do not lose'' style of football and lifts the pressure of having to qualify from the group
King Gizzard
06-12-2013, 10:21 AM
and I don't get why there is trepidation of playing a South American side, when most of the south american sides are comprised of players playing in Europe, thus not giving them any type of climate advantage

and I don't get why there is trepidation of playing a South American side, when most of the south american sides are comprised of players playing in Europe, thus not giving them any type of climate advantage
History tells you different.
1930 played in Uraguay won by Uraguay
1950 played in Brazil won by Uraguay
1962 played in Chilie won by Brazil
1970 played in Mexico won by Brazil
1978 played in Argentina won by Argentina
1986 played in Mexico won by Argentina
1994 played in USA won by Brazil
So every single time it's took place in the Americas, it's been won by a South American team.
The one and only time a European team has won outside of Europe was Spain in South Africa 2010.
Brazil are the only non European team to win in Europe, Sweden 58.
