Sanna has a cracking voice and it's lovely that she made it finally to the main stage, she deserves it. The song just goes nowhere for me, total shame because I am usually wet for a Swedish entry.

Oh and Molly was lovely on the One Show, so humble, so warm and you can tell she's proud to represent the country, just hope it goes well for her, and it lives up to the hype, I'd die if it was a mid-table - lower table entry after the hard work </3

Belgium is my least favourite entry this year, has a great voice, but diabolical song. Still think he's got top 10 sewn up, the juries will lap it up.

Eurovision UK jury headed by vocal coach Carrie Grant

Eurovision Song Contest organisers have named all the national jury members for this year's competition.

The UK's five-strong panel will be headed up by TV vocal coach and former Fame Academy judge Carrie Grant. It also features soprano Laura Wright, music producer Steve Allen, DJ Candice McKenzie and writer/composer Gus Gowland.

It is the first time jury members have been revealed ahead of the contest in a bid to create more transparency.

Sony Ireland's general manager Patrick Hughes will chair Ireland's jury, which also sees Charlie McGettigan - who won the competition in 1994 with Paul Harrington - on the panel.

Liam Reilly, who also represented Ireland as a singer in 1990 as a songwriter in 1991, is on the jury along with DJ Jenny Greene and reality show winner Leanne Moore.

Jury members - who must all be music industry professionals - will be asked to judge vocal capacity, performance, composition of the song and overall impression by the act.

The national juries will vote in one semi-final and the final, counting towards 50% of the overall vote. Each jury's individual rankings will also be published immediately afterwards. This year's contest is being held in Copenhagen, Denmark, with the final broadcast on 10 May. Molly Smitten-Downes will represent the UK this year with her song Children of the Universe.

I'm happy she finally got to represent them, seeing her flop every time in Melfest was a bit sad. But it's just awful. I think it's easily my least favourite of the year, and I hate knowing that a song I dislike will do well, she's got top 5 sewn up and if she's got a late slot, they can effectively crown her the winner

Eurovision 2014: Hidden Voting Patterns Show UK Not 'Stitched Up' by Prejudice

Statistical analysis of voting patterns for the Eurovision Song Contest show they are not driven by prejudice and that the contest is not stitched up at the UK's expense.

Researchers at University College London and Imperial College London also revealed that musical talent is unlikely to be the only element that wins scores.

The analysis of voting patterns over the past two decades suggests that widespread support for certain countries' acts is based on positive loyalties based on culture, geography, history and migration. Yet these effects are small – and the team found no evidence to support Sir Terry Wogan's criticism that the contest is marred by blatant bias and discrimination.

"Migration seems to be an interesting explanation for some of the patterns that we see in the data," said Dr Gianluca Baio, of UCL, co-author of the study. "For example, Turkey seems to be scored highly by German voters, possibly due to the large number of Turkish people who have migrated to Germany, and potentially tele-vote from there. But our analysis found no convincing evidence of negative bias or discrimination against anyone – no country really has any enemies."

The team analysed voting since Eurovision introduced tele-voting in 1998. Computer analysis showed clusters of countries with similar behaviours, identifying the probability of each country belonging to a particular voting bloc in any particular year.

In line with previous findings, the results suggested that voting congregates within four broad groups of nations. One combines the former Yugoslavia, Switzerland and Austria, and another covers central and southern Europe plus a larger bloc which includes the former Soviet Union.

The UK, Ireland and Scandinavia, cleaves relatively randomly into two groups each year.

"In our analysis we used what we call a 'Bayesian hierarchical formulation' to model the scores," said study co-author Dr Marta Blangiardo. "We took into account factors like the language of the song and the gender of the singer both of which have known effects on the votes. This left behind an underlying trend for us to measure. This trend is based on cultural and geographical similarities, as well as migrations of people."

The model allows focuses on the presence of repeated voting behaviour over the years, rather than one-off factors.

"The observed data can only suggest whether there is bias, and there can be many reasons for this," Baio says. "To prove something stronger like 'discrimination' or 'favouritism', we would need more complex data, for example polling on people's motivations for voting the way they do.

Looking at the results country by country, Greece seemed to be favoured by its neighbours Cyprus and Albania, amidst a general delivery of positive votes, which is thought to be driven by widespread migrations of Greek citizens across Europe.

The study was published in the Journal of Applied Statistics.

Yeah, Terry Wogan was a bellend with it, gives it the stigma now with the whole 'bloc voting omg it's all political, we're hated'... let Sweden send Daz Sampson and see if they get top 5'.. and they can **** off with everything about it is political when Germany won 4 years ago ffs.

What really pissed me off about Terry Wogan was how he'd always say something like "Eurovision voting as eccentric as ever", but within the next minute would make a comment like "the beauty of bloc voting", or whatever he would say.

He came across really contradictory, and his blatant pessimstic attitude towards the end of his stint with Eurovision really formed a grey rain cloud over the enjoyment of the contest.

I'm so happy we have Graham Norton now,

As the second round of rehearsals take place at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, it’s time for the costumes to come out.

Whilst for most, it’s a chance to showcase couture and designer labels; today’s fashion headlines have been stolen by Austria and Ireland.

Ireland’s Kasey Smith, lead singer of the band Can-Linn followed Austria’s Conchita Wurst in an eerily similar gold lace-sewn dress with a see-through train covering stilettos.

The two leading ladies for their country are sporting very similar dresses and hair-dos. In fact, the only noticeable difference between the two artists’ stage look is Conchita’s elegantly styled facial hair.

The remarkably similar style the two songs left many in the press centre playing spot-the-difference when the rehearsal photos appeared online. Neither singer appear too happy about the situation.

Can-Linn featuring Kasey Smith are representing Ireland with a typical Irish soft-rock pop song reminiscent of former top Irish music export, The Corrs.

Austria’s Conchita will be delivering a Shirley Bassey style entry that would perfectly grace the next James Bond movie.

Should Austria win the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, who wouldn’t place a bet on the next Bond movie taking its name from the song title, Rise like a Phoenix.

Its the sheer crapness of the lyrics that gets me - its like she went into a 1980s paper office in croydon and noted down all the naff motivational posters.

Waterhog does better stuff

Power to the people
Power to the people

I’m been tired of this thinking
So I drowned it all by drinking
Feels like a bitter pill
But I’ll just wash it down
With the taste of something sweet
That some doctor gave me

And this is my message
I’m not given in

We shine like diamonds
With fire in our bones
Stand beside you
After feeling that I’ll never walk alone

We’re children of the universe
Don’t you know
Dancing on the edge of time

Children of the universe
Yes children of the universe

Power to the people
Power to the people
Power to the people
You know what we want
And we got to get it now

Something’s stirring in the silence
and it wreaks of passive violence
Hold on tight cause opportunity will take
Couldn’t enter all the suffering before it gets too late

Hopes on the horizon
I’m not giving in

We’re the children of the universe
And don’t you know
It’s dancing on the edge of time

Eye to eye
Yes chidlren of the universe

We shine like diamonds
With love in our hearts
We say it’s the end
But I have a feeling it might just be the start

As I am
A fire in my bones
Standing beside you I have the feeling
That I’ll never walk alone

We’re children of the universe
Don’t you know
Yeah, dancing on the edge of time

We are the children of the unvierse

Power to the people

I'd absolutely pmsl if Sweden or Armenia failed to make the final because they're on early tonight.

There's only 8 second half spots left, since they did the draw differently this year. Usually they have 3 firt half and 3 second half ballots for the Big 6 to draw from, but this time they just drew their ballots straight out of the 25 remaining places in the bowl (Denmark had already drawn 23rd earlier in the year)

So there are 12 spots left in the first half, and 8 spots left in the second half.

First Half: Germany
Second Half: Denmark, UK, Spain, Italy and France

And after tonight's semi-final, the 10 qualifying countries will do the draw as well. I'd pmsl if Armenia and Sweden are the last 2 countries to draw after tonight's semi and all the other 8 acts pick second half :p

Loukas

Exactly this. It's a lovely song the first few times you play it but when you've heard it a lot, it's just like eating bread with no butter.
