View Full Version : Accusations of bias towards the presenters, main show and BOTS

This is one thing that really annoys me every series, when people's favourites don't receive praise by the panel or audience on BOTS, or the presenter reads out a pre-written link on the autocue that makes a light-hearted dig at them, or the presenter dares to offer their opinion on the subject, etc etc etc...then everything in question is accused of being biased either for or against certain housemates and so I want to address this

1) 'They're so anti *insert favourite housemate here* on BOTS!!!!!!'

Well, they're not. The panellists, much like all of us on here, all have contrasting opinions and on some occasions will agree - and maybe take a dislike towards your favourite, that's...well, life. Do some people on here really think that the guest bookers brief all of the panellists beforehand asking them who their favourites are to ensure that they're not letting a housemate they 'hate' be praised on air? I don't think so. More to the point - why do any of you actually care what the panellists think, or how many of them think that? There's plenty of regular panellists that come on and I enjoy that actually can sometimes dislike a housemate I like and want them out. I don't agree with them but I still enjoy them being on the show, why wouldn't I? it's just their opinion, it's hardly going to change my mind, so why would it change yours? There's some people on here that I get on with but whose opinions either always differ from mine or maybe rarely differ, but whenever they do I don't suddenly dislike them...and the same applies to panelists I like - I'm not going to take a disliking towards them for not liking the same housemates as me

2) 'Emma/Rylan is so biased'

Maybe it's just me but I've actually always enjoyed hearing a presenters opinion of a show they present? Emma's is as much if not more of a Big Brother super fan than all of us on here and I find it interesting to hear what the presenter of a show has to say about what they're working on - and that applies to most shows I watch, I look forward to Dermot's views on Xtra Factor, Ant and Dec's on I'm A Celeb and the parts where Emma (who usually has great opinions btw) or Rylan express their views I enjoy hearing too. There's this really strange notion that they should remain impartial and I just think well okay, when interviewing them yes I can understand that, they're all entitled to a fair platform - but why otherwise? It's this bizarre idea that a presenter airing their views is somehow going to change the opinions of the viewers, well quite frankly anyone that'll let the presenter of a show dictate their opinion is just an idiot really - I mean does anyone like that even exist? Surely not? So why is it an issue?

3) *scripted light-hearted digs that a presenter reads off the autocue* 'WHY ARE U BEING SO BIASED'

Those links are written and tailored for pretty much every single housemate across the series, they're contextual and reference something that has just been seen in a VT before or about the show that evening, they are just throwaway jokes that are used to make the script a bit more zany and fun, they mean nothing. More to the point, they are scripted, not written by Emma or Rylan. They read from an autocue. I think some people seem to forget that

----------------------------------------

I was gonna make this thread last night and I've definitely forgotten a few other points that I was going to make but that'll do - basically I think the claims of bias are wildly exaggerated every single year, and quite frankly I couldn't even care less, there's been housemates I've liked that have took a slaughtering on BOTS before but that's the panellists opinions (usually silly ones, but hey ho) - it's not going to change mine so why is it relevant? I just think people get so wound up about this every series just because their favourites aren't receiving as much vocal support as they'd like and whilst yeah it might be irritating that others don't share the same opinion as you, there's not much we can do

But one thing I do love is when BOTS takes the piss out of the people that claim the show is biased and Emma has a go at the people on Twitter who send her hate for daring to express an opinion (who are these people, I mean really) :D

Giving an opinion is fine. I too like it.

If they're giving an opinion on an incident, event in the house it's fine but when it's general relentlessness either in complete support or hatred of a housemate then it's out of order.

I do notice that when a panel is all against one housemate, Emma tries to find positives and offer positives herself but there are times when you see her relish the love of a housemate she likes and keep up the negativity of someone she doesn't like.

Makes me laugh though that now she's taken to giving small patronising speeches to camera addressing these criticisms every now and again.

I don't mind the bias so much, I expect it a little of Emma because she's such a big fan. I hate episodes like tonight though when it seems dedicated to one person.

Emma has always been too biased, which is why I never thought she should be the main host

Well I don't think she's been biased during the main show so her being the main host is fine.

Yeah I actually like that Emma has strong opinions on who she likes/dislikes, I like shes actually a fan - im used to the US version where Julie Chen couldn't pick out any of them from a line up - I try to avoid the Rylan version of BOTS (why was he hired again? what happened the red haired girl? she was great)

They're anti Jim for sure. They keep showing the same clips over and over again. It's getting boring now.

Wait so a presenter of a show can't have favourites and dislike some people, were all human, i think she does a pretty good job and so does rylan, i'd think it was boring if they had unbiased views.

They were getting people on the panel who all hated Jim everyday. Until they got complaints and now they're trying to readress the balance.

I haven't watched alot of BOTS this year but to say that they're not biased is ridiculous, how about Aaron for example? Even after he won they couldn't be positive towards him, they were an absolute disgrace

They tried everything to get rid of him. Getting Jem in, F&F nominations, bad edits, tasks designed to make him crack, BOTS dissing him.

Yep and even the night he won, the stuff Pete Burns said to him (which i believe he later said he was encouraged to say by the producers) It was really disrespectful to both Aaron as the winner and the viewers who'd paid money to make him the winner

I really felt sorry for him that year. He went through hell on the show. No wonder he was not happy. Despite all this he was an amazing housemate.

I would usually agree but Last nights BOTS was literally dedicated to Ollie. It was ridiculous.

Why do they bother anyway? He's not going anywhere.

They are ridiculously biased! The worst was when Aaron was in there, they slated him constantly & the powers that be obviously didn't want him to win as he didn't fit their demgraphic (And how they let that vile creature Pete Burns speak to him was dispicable)... Thankfully it did them no good & he rightfully won... A similar thing is happening this year with Jim,so hopefully he will win too :D

Last years civilian BB was definitely biased against certain HM's and toward others. It was absolutely obvious from the edit the HM's got, to the comments that were allowed unchallenged on BOTs to the guest they had on Bots. There can no question about it. For me, its something that is not necessary so I'm not in favour of even a little bias.

I wonder if they're secrety supporting Jim. Surely they know that the more you bash a housemate the more sympathy he gets from the public? :suspect:

Last year they were biased against Dexter. It didn't work. :joker:

Alice Levine  I don't know whether her exit was voluntary or she was sacked but I think she works for Radio 1 now so she's probably not too bothered either way

They do those piss-taking montages for every evictee, they used to call them their 'Worst Bits'. It wasn't a Linda-only thing

Some people really don't watch BOTS that often it seems

But TBF they are panellists and not the presenters...but a fair and balanced support for all of the HM's would be nice, it's been mainly hate for Jim....including tonight with so called professionals who should know better, they are meant to be fair to what ever situation that has happened in that house, but tonight we were subjected to open feminism and hate for a bloke whose only crime is to stand up to so called "strong women"...the only thing that was missing tonight was the bra burning.

I think we may be overestimating the intelligence of the voting population if we say they can never be swayed...... especially by an "expert's" views.

I do agree however that the light hearted segments of the show which pokes fun at a HM are not biased...just as long as the light hearted digs are at each and every HM in turn.

Some people do.... I do.
Judging by the revelations by linda and liz of the psychological distress I feel it was unnecessarily cruel.
Repeating the crux of the hurt ' Frank Carsons dressing room' 20 times.... Lindas voice distorted to sound sedated and slurred?
I found it uncomfortable to watch.

^ well if you did then you'd know that they do the same mocking style VTs for every evictee and always have done, and not single it out as some example of anti-Linda bias

I thought it was hilarious and tbqh I doubt she even watched it, they were most probably mic-ing her up, briefing her and walking her to the top of the stairs on the set whilst the VT was playing, so it makes no difference
