Well if he joined he would pretty much become our best CB instantly and our leader(barring Jones and Smalling maturing drastically)......so I would say he is United quality right now :joker:. I think it would be good to have a defender who can actually lead his defensive line and would also have a solid relationship with the Manager. Rojo looks like happening though so I think they will try go for the home run compliment of Benatia and once Bayern steal him it may well be Vlaar. Wouldn't mind if the price is decent, but obviously Benatia would be main option.

Anyone else disliking the Manchester United transfer policy post Fergie? One of the things that Fergie was always very good at as a manager was the way in which he was able to spot young talent with potential and then fine tune them into the finished article. These days though it just seems to be more of a quick fix, splash the cash approach with more emphasis placed on player brand rather then potential skill. I couldn't for example have seen Fergie spending that kind of money on Mata or giving up on Zaha so early.

It's not really a quick fix. Shaw is 18, Herrera is 24 but was bought on potential. Rojo is also young. None of the signings this summer are quick fixes. We just haven't bought wisely.

Mario Balotelli will lose £2  million a year if he does not shed his bad-boy image at Liverpool after he accepted a significant pay cut to leave AC Milan.

Balotelli arrived in England on Friday to undergo the first stage of a medical held in Manchester and Liverpool this weekend. Personal terms are agreed, so it is the relationship struck between Brendan Rodgers and Balotelli that will determine if the £16 million transfer will be go through.

Indications on Friday evening were that the first meeting went extremely well and the deal is expected to be finalised by Tuesday.

Liverpool have an option to sign Samuel Eto’o if talks with Balotelli break down, but Rodgers and the Anfield hierarchy are encouraged by the eagerness of the player to make financial compromises to move to Liverpool, believing he realises this is his last chance to succeed at one of the world’s biggest clubs.

Liverpool offered the Italian around £90,000 a week to return to England, but there are add-ons amounting to an additional £40,000 if the 24-year-old keeps out of trouble.

The contract is for three years, with Liverpool reserving the option to extend to a fourth. If Balotelli does not abide by the stipulations he will be put up for sale for £10 million.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo have an update on William Carvalho and a possible transfer to Arsenal this summer. The British press have picked up many things from O Jogo over the past few months on Carvalho and this latest news will be no different.

It's claimed that Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon are in deep talks regarding the transfer of Carvalho. Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho has made it known he'll accept €30m to €35m which is much less than the midfielder's €45m buyout clause and much more realistic.

That was already suspected and reported by the Portuguese press but on Monday they say Bruno de Carvalho wants more from Arsenal, in the form of one or two players going permanently or on loan. Unlike the Nani move as part of the Marcos Rojo deal, those are more likely to be younger players and it could be something to benefit Arsenal and get some of their young talent a few games.

Previous reports in Portugal claimed that Bruno de Carvalho had stopped talks with Arsenal after they asked to pay €30m in instalments. Manchester United are paying for Rojo in instalments so perhaps the president is softening to the idea of that. It's not a case of either Manchester United or Arsenal lacking the cash to do deals but it looking prettier on balance sheets.

O Jogo mentioned several young Arsenal players as possible candidates for a loan move. Those are Sanogo, Coquelin, Gnabry and Miyaichi.

Liverpool FC vice-captain Daniel Agger looks set to complete a shock cut-price move to his former club Brondby.

The Reds are locked in talks with the Danish Superliga outfit over a permanent deal worth around £3million for the long-serving Anfield defender.

Agger's future has been the subject of intense speculation all summer after he fell out of favour last season.

The £20million signing of Dejan Lovren last month knocked him further down the pecking order and the frustrated 29-year-old signalled his intention to move on.

He has been linked with Atletico Madrid and Napoli but Agger informed Liverpool he had no interest in playing for anyone else other than Brondby in his homeland.

The transfer has been complicated by the fact that Brondby aren't in a position to pay anywhere near the market value for Denmark's captain.

Liverpool rejected an offer of £20million from Manchester City for Agger in 2012 and £15million from Barcelona 12 months ago.

They could have expected around £10million for him this summer but instead they will have to accept a significantly lower fee.

The Reds are also close to a settlement with Agger over the final two years of his £120,000 per week contract.

Agger has made 232 appearances for Liverpool since his £5.8milliom move from Brondby in January 2006.

He helped Rafa Benitez's side reach the Champions League final in 2007 but the classy centre-back's progress at Anfield was frequently dogged by injuries.

Last season he endured problems with both fitness and form with Brendan Rodgers preferring the defensive combination of Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho.

If the move to Brondby goes through he will be guaranteed a hero's reception in Copenhagen.

Agger initially joined the club at the age of 12 and helped them clinch the Danish Superliga title in 2005 prior to his move to Anfield.

Part of the deal was a friendly between the clubs and that belatedly happened last month when Agger captained the Reds. The home fans chanted his name repeatedly and pleaded with him to re-sign for them.

Now it appears they will get their wish with Brondby chairman Jan Bech Andersen willing to help bankroll the deal.
