Yes I usually say it if I know the person, if I don't know them then they can go away and bless themselves.

I say gesundheit and if i sneeze I always say "excuse me" even if im in all on me tod

The reason people do this, is because people thought you were open to an attack from the devil/his minions after a sneeze, so people had to react quickly to get some holiness into you straight away.

Yeah I always said it to Matthew and he now says it to everyone...whether he knows them or not. He also comes in from outside to tell me he's sneezed and how many times so I can say it. If I forget sometimes he gets annoyed with me :laugh:

i was thinking about this the other day . around lots of people all week i found it interesting who said it when someone sneezed.

i do though it comes from the plague times or something and its silly now i just like the politeness of it. it shows you care.
but if its some twat who sneezes like semi on purpous and makes a big deal of it. then no. as they are grose animals.
