Caithness ballot boxes held up by 1.5 hours because of an accident on the A9 at Berriedale Braes blackspot.
The ballot boxes are now expected at the count in Dingwall at about 03:00.

Yeah its gonna be a No. Think the turnout is quite understandable as well comsidering the gravity of the question, think I read somewhere that independence referendums get a > 80% turnout on average

Very annoyingly we are in the midst of the storm of the century here and we have no power. Following it all on the radio by candlelight

The seethe on pie & bovril forum right now is a bit worrying to say the least.

Grown men spitting their dummies out and labelling their fellow countrymen as selfish, egotistical bigots for daring to vote different to them. Others claiming Scotland isn't their country anymore and saying they are gonna leave. One even letting their true colours show with a resounding **** England.

It was a great campaign, the yes one anyway. I'm sorry to all those on here who felt passionately about gaining independence :(

I selfishly wanted the union to stay out of nothing more than a token affection for the saltire's part in the Union Jack, but upon reflection I'm happier now that I can still call some of my greatest friends (Z and L) my compatriots as well.

Hopefully this election is the dawn of a more democratic UK. The turnouts and passion behind both sides of the debate have been incredible (if a little bit tiring towards the end) and I think both sides can emerge proud of their efforts: the Yes campaign and Salmond in particular are great revolutionaries and a well-needed kick up the arse towards Westminster and its out-of-touch policies, and the No campaign for realising (better late than never?) that the UK is a great country and can be greater together

Now I must stop being soppy and head to bed.

I completely agree, I had a strong inclination that when it came to walking into a polling station and marking that paper, a significant number of people would simply bottle it and vote for the status quo.

Completely taken in by the illusion that such a status quo even exists.

The London juggernaut continues to trundle on towards certain collapse and off we go with it. I suggest those who wanted no change take a look at their situation in 10 years time and consider whether or not they actually got to "just keep things as they are"... It's clear that Western capitalism is sinking, but the rats are too scared to jump ship because they keep reading that there might be sharks in the water.

I also hear that Westminster are ALREADY, within hours of the result, backpedaling on the promise of more devolved powers. Another huge surprise there.

As Lost Alex rightly has been saying, this was never going to be allowed to happen. The US was against it, China was against it, and the EU was scared of the consequences for other nations with strong regional variations. We don't get to change the world. We will probably be punished for trying.

And as for it still being a positive because of the turn out and the political engagement? Those who voted for the status quo, for familiarity and comfort, got their wish and can get back to watching the telly. Those who dared to hope for better and vote for change now see the truth about the rigidity of the system and this will be hammered home when (not if) the "increased powers" offered are paltry, and will (rightly?) slide straight back into political apathy.

Exciting times.

Capitalism is thriving that's why our infrastructure is being dismantled, the brand 'Britain' is being broken and sold by the elite.

Corporatism is thriving, capitalism (as it was devised) is broken, failing, and cannibalizing everything and everyone around it.

That is an interesting and really good point.

Yes I agree It could be said that unions are corporatism too but for me that shows you have a vested interest for reasons such as civil duty, social cohesion and professional pride. The capitalist bastardisation of corporatism is privatisation where shareholders have a vested interest for no other reason than the maximising of profits, they have little or no interest in social, moral or ethical considerations or impact on the workforce in that field or communities some of which have died out due to de-indusrialisation.
