View Full Version : EastEnders omnibus to be taken off air in April 2015

EastEnders will stop airing a weekly omnibus from April 2015.

Executive producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, explained that viewing figures for the omnibus edition of the BBC One soap have "steadily decreased" in recent years.

In a letter published by The Writer's Guild, he wrote: "The BBC is today announcing that the EastEnders omnibus will cease from April 2015. This decision has been taken after much consideration and detailed analysis of the audience research."

He said that the "advent of PVRs and the wide availability of BBC iPlayer" has contributed to a decease in demand for the weekly catch-up broadcast.

"With the anticipated introduction of 30 day catch-up on BBC iPlayer in the near future, as well as BBC One +1, there will be even more opportunities for viewers to watch episodes they've missed," he continued.

Treadwell-Collins assured writers in his letter that the BBC is "absolutely committed to the future of EastEnders", and that it "remains at the heart of the BBC One schedule".

A BBC spokesperson confirmed to Digital Spy: "EastEnders is a key part of the BBC One schedule but viewers are increasingly using their recording devices or iPlayer to catch-up on episodes they've missed rather than rely on the weekly TV repeat.

"As a result, from April 2015, BBC One will no longer show the EastEnders omnibus."

True, but I'm sure moving it to a Friday night when most people are out didn't exactly work wonders on that front either. If that was the most convenient schedule they should've either left it on a Sunday or seized the opportunity and canned it altogether at that point.

I think it was axed last year and then there was a backlash to bring it back so they put it on a Friday night.

do you not think i have a right to complain or say how i feel about a topic we are all discussing ?

do you not think there might be some truth in what i am saying seen as we are talking about EE axing the repeat ?

do you not think EE can see this and maybe get some ideas where they are going wrong and with a bit of luck change things ? cancel my last point as i have been complaining about EE for at least 3 years now but that is because it is so dyer.

i sware to god if Emmerdale ever got to this point where i was compaining about the best soap ever - well i would be distraught.

marsh - see as you picked up my complaint on EE i don't suppose you have anything nice to say about all my nice comments on emmerdale ? then again if you like EE as it is - well that speaks a million words.

I couldn't give a flying fig about your opinions on Emmerdale.

I'm simply pointing out that you've whinged about Eastenders being crap for at least a couple of years and yet you continue to watch.

Get on your high horse over the quality of a daft soap opera, that's your prerogative. A million words? I think you're overestimating its importance.

Most people have access to some form of catch up now, so it seems silly to continue to show an omnibus... If you miss it & don't see it later on BBC 3 you can watch it on iPlayer...

i am not here to be liked germy - i am here to comment on the subject in the hope that someone from EE sees it and suggest they change it.

i have been a EE fan all my life and would not even look at corri or emmerdale but now i gave them both a chance - EE does not compare to them.

I don't think one person out of 7 million viewers who posts bad poems and poorly-constructed posts on a Big Brother forum is going to convince TPTB that they need to change. Eastenders has been really well received by fans and media alike this year so your opinion is irrelevant.

For one if you're going to criticise EastEnders you should at least post links from this year... 2011 to 2013 are commonly regarded as some of the worst years in the show's history and virtually everyone will agree to that so I don't know why you think that proves a point about it still being rubbish.

i don't feel i should have to back up what my personal thoughts are even if they are not backed up by the links you provide as after all that is what a forum is - to say how you feel on a subject - i am so sorry i am so negative on EE and maybe you are all right i should give up on watching it.
