Loving Skins so much!

I got the S1 DVD a few weeks ago and I've watched the whole series twice now :) I cant wait for the S2 DVD already!

A lot of people I know feel this series is too serious, and I somewhat agree but I still love it. Seeing the characters and now how they have developed from S1 to S2 to brilliant.

Can't wait to see Cassie next week, and Angie's back aswel :)

Tonight's episode was one of the best of both series I thought. I liked how Chris, Jal and Cassie developed into deeper characters as they were all kind of one note characters before (Even though Chris and Cassie are two of my favourite characters). I was shocked when you first saw Jal with a pregnancy test but after that it was a bit predictable and you know it would be positive.

I'm confused about next week's though, it's about Tony again? I thought his episode was the joint one with Maxxie at the start of this series?

I quite liked the last episode - but I found it incredibly random! It just didn't seem to make sense to me at all, and probably only the last few minutes made a bit of sense. I really liked the Chris/Jal episode (wonder what will happen with Jal's twist storyline in particular), and some of the first few were all right but others were quite serious and awkward.

I've liked this series - the last one was more about fun and it was exciting because it was new. But I'm still loving Skins - only thing I don't like too much is that only one/two characters get focus every week, and attention completely goes off the others... I know that's the idea, but I'd prefer it to be a bit more spread out and sometimes focusing on other characters and their relationships.

I like Maxxie because I think he adds somthing to Skins that the others dont. If they were all Tony's or Chris' the show wouldnt be the same. He is a good friend and Ive really enjoyed getting to know Maxxie's character more in this series.

Well, I'm convinced that it was the same actor both time, and one character had a burnt face whilst the other didn't? I have no idea what the point of the two of them was, and whether or not they're meant to be the same person. When Tony met the professor for the first time amongst the other students, he showed no inkling of knowing him. But either way, I'm so confused as to what was meant to be real when etc.

But if you listen to the beggining when Effy is reading to Tony you hear her say something about never look back and at the end the girl says dont look back tony it makes it seem even more like its in his mind... if that makes sense lol x

The next series will focus on a whole different bunch of characters aged 16-18. The producers have started to hold open auditions to cast these new roles.

Its funny, Red and I were talking about that the other day, he said that if all the characters are changing, because it surrounds of a new school year then Effy should stay because she is younger than the main characters that are in series 2.

I think that will be ok so long as they keep the same writers it will be fine

It was Cassie story and she ran away to New York. We won't know what happen after Chris death until next week. Cassie didn't see that she wasn't there and she couldn't remember even how she got to New York. She just found herself there. We only see her story and what she knows or believes.

It's seems to me the programme is about growing up, parting and moving on. Leaving the past behind. The mess we can create in while we discover who and what we are. How we fit into this thing called life.

Ok, for those of you who dont think that it will be there same next series if the same cast are not in it.

The episode last year showing Effy and her friend ended up at that toffs club house, that didnt revolve around the main cast. Granted, they were in it, but it centred around Effy. I personally thought that was a cracking episode and wanted to know more about her.

In this series, we got more about her, and once again I enjoyed watching the story line evolve around her.

Thats what the new series will do. Effy, I believe. will be on of the central characters in the next series

I wasn't pleased when I heard that the cast was axed, and I'm still not happy.

However, the idea that Effy will be back and be a central main figure in S3 gives me some comfort that they are aren't going too far. Like somebody else said in this topic, Effy's S2 eppy was a piolet for S3 and an introduction to Effy's life and friends (Pandora and that other guy).

I think if they are gonna use Effy like they used Tony in the last 2 series - Series 3 looks to be a cracker. I'm far more intrested in Effy then Tony. Effy has far more depth then Tony ever had - with Tony, we kinda knew were it was all gonna end up.

I'm sad that we wont get to see (or maybe not as much) Maxxie, Anwar, Sketch, Sid, Mich, Jal and Cassie anymore (And Chris, but he gone...cry,cry!).

Personally, I think that in S3, we should at least one eppy where they take a look at the lives of the previous cast. As a kind of "what they did next" thing.

I think now that they have killed off Chris then there might aswell be a new cast :sad: the writers knew that if they killed off Chris then it wouldnt be as good i bet! If the old cast carried on in S3 it wouldnt be as good because Chris is one of the best characters in Skins. Im not too keen on Effy to be honest she didnt really entertain me as much as the others, she seems nice in real life though x

'Skins' creator talks finale, new series
The rumours are true. The entire Skins cast has been axed in favour of younger models (oh, what a cruel and fickle world this is, etc. etc.). This means that next week's episode - Monday, 10pm, E4 - will be the last we see of Tony, Michelle, Sid et al. Boo! It's also the last we'll see of Cassie. Hurrah! But why have the gang been ditched? What can we expect from the new breed? And WHY was Chris killed off? Skins co-creator Jamie Brittain tells all.

What can viewers expect from the final episode?
"It's all about goodbyes. It's about saying goodbye to your friends and the things you're going to leave behind. It's sort of a poem about the end of teenage life. It's a very pretty and beautiful episode."

But it's also a sad episode. What made you decide to kill off Chris?
"It seemed like it was the right thing to do. It was a very sad thing to do, and obviously for the actor it's very difficult, but we show teenage life in its good parts and bad parts. Friends do die, horrible things do happen to teenagers, and how they cope with that is really interesting. We wanted to introduce that element into the show to give it some realism."




It's been a much darker series in general though, hasn't it?
"Personally, I much preferred the second series to the first. I think it's much more sophisticated and complex. Some of the fans have said they don't like the dark side, although generally the reaction has been quite positive. The cast do come out the other side and there is still fun stuff in there. And it's funny! We try not to make it too dark."

Why did you decide to get rid of the entire cast?
"I think the decision was made when the show first began, really. It just seemed like the logical thing to do. The show is about kids aged 16 to 18 and the time they spend at college. It was kind of natural that we were going to change the cast round every two years, because it's those two years that we really focus on. We didn't really want to do a show where they all go off to university. The show's very much about teenage life and not university life."

Did the cast always know they had a limited lifespan?
"I'm not sure if they were aware of it from the start, but most of them were on two-year contracts, so they knew they were going to be there for two years for sure and beyond that was unsure. We told them as soon as we'd really decided, because we didn't know that we were going to get a second series or how certain things were going to go down. We told them around about when series two was commissioned. They were sad, but you know, it's all very exciting for them because they get to go off and do different stuff. They're all getting exciting new parts."

There have been rumours that the new series will focus on Effy and her gang, and the final scene of this series would seem to support that. Is it true?
"Obviously I don't want to reveal too much, but Effy definitely will be in series three. I don't want to say she'll be the focus or the main character, because we don't really do that, but she'll definitely be in series three and will be heavily featured, yes."

Effy has an obvious link with Tony, so does that mean the current cast could make guest appearances?
"I think it's possible, but I don't know how possible. These young guys want to move on and do different stuff and I'm not sure they'll want to be tied down to Skins. Also we're about telling stories about the individual characters. Just thinking about it, I don't know how much it would bring to these [new] characters to have Anwar or Cassie just suddenly turn up. I just can't quite see what the benefit of that would be, other than for them to say 'hi'. We haven't ruled it out but I think it's unlikely."

How's production on the new series coming along?
"Well we haven't actually been commissioned yet, as far as I know. But if we are then we'll have to begin filming in 13 weeks from now, so we've already started working on it. At the moment I'm writing episode two of the new series, which is based on a male character. It's very exciting, it's a good, fun episode."

How different will the new cast be? Will it be just new actors playing similar characters?
"Yeah, it will be quite different. Obviously people will see some similarities and that's unfortunate, but we're trying really hard to have a new, fresh, different group of people who are apart from the first lot of characters. So we've got a villainous character this time, which I'm really excited about. He's a real nasty piece of work - whilst Tony was almost the villain in the first series, now we've got this crazy, nasty character who's really good fun to write for. There's loads of interesting characters: there are going to be twins, I can say that, and also a character from Eastern Europe."

And how are the auditions going?
"We've got a website, skinslife.com, and it's all being run from there. We had an open audition in Bristol last month, which about 1500 people turned up to, and there's going to be another one in London later this month. We're giving everyone who wants to come along the chance."

Effy and Pandora will be in Series 3. Posh Kenneth is a writer, he wont be starring in the show.

Producer recently said that he doesnt see the point in the previous cast members (Tony, Mich, Maxxie, Sid...) making appearences in series 3, so it looks unlikly that they will.

I highly doubt Sketch will be in series 3, as Anwar and Maxxie are both going.

Yeah, that's probably it. If it is, then it's a very smart move. Many people hated Cassie by the end of this season, but then again there may still be Sid/Cassie supporters out there. So really both sides win.

I'm dont quite know what to say.

Other than .... It was an amazing end to an even better series.

I loved it. I just loved it. The best thing about 'Skins', and what it makes it different to any other show is that it always leaves you wanting more - even when its not going to be around to deliver it.

Anwar is one of my favourite characters and I was so glad he finally got a bigger part to play - even if it was in the final eppy. I was so glad he went off with Maxxie as well, and didn't stay with Sketch.

Mixed feeling towards Sketch. I felt bad for her, really bad - but also glad that Maxxie and Anwar got away from her. I do want to see Sketch back in series 3, but I dont think she will be as she too has left school and has no direct link to Effy.

Jal did have the abortion, and I was shocked about that. I thought she would keep it for Chris, but obviously now. I'm glad now that she can "**** it" and go on and be successful (I know it weird saying that cause she ain't real - but ya know!)

Chris' funeral was the usual Skins' stylee, and it was sad and fun at the same time. I loved the car chase, one of the best moments of the whole series IMO

I hated them both in series 1, and then I started to like Tony in series 2. And now by the finale - I love them both. I'm glad they are back together.

I always knew the final would really be about Sid and Cassie. I'm glad with the ending because it allows us all, individually, to decide their fate.

I loved this series, and I'm really gonna miss it.

It's all about Effy in 2009! Bring it on!

And though I know they're not usually realistic - but "**** it" never works as a philosophy.

Hit Teen Drama Triumphs In Europe

Teen drama Skins was among a string of British-made programmes to pick up a prestigious Rose d'Or award in Lucerne, Switzerland.

The series, shown on Channel 4 and E4, is set in Bristol and follows the lives of a group teenagers.

One of its stars is Nicholas Hoult, who was Marcus in the Hugh Grant romantic comedy About A Boy and is Tony in Skins.

Skins won the best drama award at Europe's oldest international television entertainment festival, beating Billie Piper's Secret Diary of a Call Girl, from ITV2, and BBC One's Jekyll.

Other winners included Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd, BBC Two comedy The Peter Serafinowicz Show, ballet documentary Strictly Bolshoi and the satirical series Kombat Opera Presents.

The Street II, which follows the lives of residents of one street in Manchester, also received a special mention in the drama category.

Festival director Urban Frye said: "This year's programmes were of exceptional quality, which presented our international jurors with a challenging task.

"However, the calibre of entries proves not only that the Rose d'Or is back at the heart of European creativity, but also that it is possible to create programmes with cross-cultural and cross-generational appeal."

This year's festival, the 48th, attracted a record 402 entries from 34 countries.

A billboard poster for Skins, which featured Michelle in her underwear and other characters "in various stages of undress", was indecent and should not have been used, advertising regulators have decided.

In the advert, Michelle, the character played by April Pearson in the teen drama, is sitting on the edge of a bed with dishevelled hair and smudged eye make-up. Sid (Mike Bailey) is in the background, sitting up in the bed naked, with a pillow over his crotch.

Several other couples are embracing at Michelle's feet, also naked or in their underwear.

About ten people complained to the Advertising Standards Agency about the poster - most saying it was offensive and unsuitable to be seen by children. Others said it could be seen as condoning underage sex.

Channel 4 defended the posters saying that Skins "clearly depicted the consequences of hedonistic and irresponsible behaviour". The relationship between Michelle and Sid was "ultimately empty", said the broadcaster, while it took care not to place the adverts near schools. It added that all the characters involved were over 18.

Though it rejected the complaints about underage sex, the ASA said the poster breached its code. "We considered that the image, showing characters from the programme embracing in varying states of undress, implied that an orgy was taking place," said the regulator in a statement today.

"We concluded that the poster could cause serious or widespread offence to those who saw it and was unsuitable to be used in a medium where it could be seen by children."

The ASA rejected complaints about another poster that showed character Tony (Nicholas Hoult) lying under the water in a bath, leaving it "unclear whether he was dead or alive". Some were concerned the image was offensive, distressing and could be copied by children.

Little-known This Is England actor Jack O'Connell has become the first casting made public for Skins series three.

All the show's characters are being dropped in favour of a new batch, with the exception of Tony's sister Effy.

O'Connell, who played Pukey in the Shane Meadows film, will play a "lairy" character named Cook, according to the Daily Mirror.

"The rest of the cast are unknowns," a source told the paper. "Some of the scenes are hilarious - the new batch will start as well as the old ones left off."

Jack O'Connell and Merveille Lukeba have been cast as Cook and Thomas on the third series of Skins. Jack previous credits include This is England and Waterloo Road and Merveille include The Bill and Ezra.

Filming is currently underway for the 3rd Series.

And one of the new faces is young actor Jack O'Connell.

You might recognise him as "Pukey" from the hit Brit flick This Is England, in which he played a boozing, pot-smoking skinhead. So he should feel right at home as lairy Cook in E4's Skins 2.

E4 has announced the new characters that will be introduced in the upcoming third season of its popular teen drama Skins, says Last Broadcast.

Tony Stonem's younger sister Effy (Kaya Scodelario) and her best friend Pandora (Lisa Backwell) will be the only existing cast members to appear in the third series next year.

The new additions to the girls' lineup are Katie and Emily, twins with contrasting personalities, and the idealistic Naomi.

The boys are comprised of the charismatic Cook (Jack O'Connell), skateboarding stoner Freddie, magician J.J., and Thomas, who struggles to settle in the UK after arriving from Congo.

Harry Enfield, Morwenna Banks and Geoffrey Hughes will return for guest appearances, along with new guest stars Scott Mills, Mackenzie Crook, Sally Phillips and James Fleet.

Skins returns to E4 for a ten-episode run in January.
