There will be a 48 hour countdown between Friday and Sunday, at the end of which all the housemates for Tuesday's launch show will be.....

This is not the first time in Big Brother history - I remember seeing a two-page spread on the new Housemates in Big Brother 2 before the first show aired. Obviously they had already gone into the house by that point as they didn't do live launches back then, but it definitely had their official press shots and bios in the newspaper.

I'm not looking at these, and I'm staying away from TIBB and DS for two days, until Tuesday night.

I don't really understand what the point of this is. I can understand why they'd do it for CBB, if they had a good line-up. But the whole point of launch is meeting the housemates on the first night. It's good they have faith in this years cast, but I'm not sure this is the way to go.

The best thing about launch is being surprised when watching their VT's and seeing the housemates faces for the first time.

I agree with the poster who said there should be a separate spoiler thread on this, as I'm not interested in knowing who the housemates are until launch night. But there's always some idiot who will blurt out the names or type of housemates on another thread or have their pictures as their sig.

Terrible idea, IMO.

It will either go one way or another they think. I reckon they think releasing it would create more buzz, but then if the selection is not good, people won't tune into launch.

It just makes the launch night pointless. What's the point in watching it if I already know the people going in? What a way to ruin the tradition and excitement of a UK Big Brother launch.

Obviously some form of twist going on launch night.

With this and heavy rumors of past HMs going in though I'm very worried about this series and tbh my excitement is nothing at the moment, this all feels like a disaster waiting to happen.

To be fair, looking at it properly, it could be good for buzz. Go on Twitter and the BBUK hashtag is the most busy its been since the build up. Then there is a chance that BBUK will trend on Twitter 2 days BEFORE it starts which I guess is good promotion too.. and then those last 2 days, the Twitter feed could be busier than usual as those who have taken a peek, will be discussing it.

So, to be fair, this is just a way to get BBUK trending before launch night so there are possibly more people that get to see it rather than just those on Twitter a couple of hours before launch (when BB usually starts trending).

Also, it's not the first time ever. Pretty sure BB2 revealed them before on the papers.

I actually don't totally hate the idea, it seems a bit pointless right now, but until there could be a very good reason for them doing this. it might even bring in a few more viewers if people see someone that interests them before hand.

Hopefully they just release pictures or something without information about them though so they can keep some sort of surprise for the launch.

The housemates are usually leaked on the day anyway - I don't mind it being leaked the day before but I'll regret looking if that's all there is to launch.

I don't see why they don't done what they did in some years (I remember it was done in BB13) and reveal descriptions of the housemates without giving away their identity - it still creates buzz and allows people to make guesses, more so than if they just give us the housemates there and then. Plus, BB13 had a pretty good launch rating, didn't it? (for Channel 5 at least...)

Imo I don't think they'll do it if their the same as launch night, I'm kinda ok with this idea but theres not really a point of a launch. I might "half look" as in go on wikipedia & see names, ages & where they're from & thats it. That might make it a bit more exiting.
