Clegg will go and he probably needs to do for the sake of his party. A lot of the stick he gets is unwarranted imo and people will probably appreciate what he did a lot more in a few years time but his position now is untenable and the Lib Dems will only be able to recover with a completely new face to the party

Ruling out the idea of another coalition?

Yeah I don't think there will be another one tbh, Lib Dems have lost most their main players and will have too few seats to have much influence at all, and tbh the Tories may as well govern with a strong minority rather than having to make concessions to the motley rump of the Lib Dems. 9 or 10 Lib Dem MPs will have no chance of persuading over 300 Tory ones to not have an EU referendum and things like that. I think Clegg will be gone this time tomorrow and the Lib Dems will look to rebuild, a process they can carry out better if they're not in government

Samuel.

Win or lose I just love election nights.

Congrats to David Cameron, although he has a likely harder road governing now ironically with a much smaller overall majority status.
Predictions are always unwise as I found out again, which is another reason I love general elections.

I was over the moon to see Esther Mcvey out in Wirral West, I trudged down streets galore in that seat hoping to help see her go and so that is my result of the night.

However,so many more great losses too, the Lib Dem losses of Cable, Laws, Alexander, Hughes, Swinson and Featherstone, excellent, a good payback for the things they supported this last 5 years.

Awful night for Labour, I will stick with them however and hopefully,as this parliament unfolds, see a better result next time, with a new leader however.

One result I am over the moon to see and I have just got in from being at a count, was James Wharton in Stockton South for the Conservatives,a really sound and decent good MP who deserved to hold his seat.
Well done Smudgie there,I would inmagine you are over the moon.

I would like to think,David Cameron will return to the ideas he had when he first became leader, his one nation Conservative hopes and getting rid of the nasty elements in his party.
It is far harder to govern with a small majority than what he has had before,he has massively divided UK and a hostile house of commons as to him too.
I wait and will watch to see what he does with it, with victory it is better to bring humilty into play.
If he carries on arrogantly disregarding large sections of society which is what I see him doing, however I hope he turns back from that.

Awful night for me personally, one the worst results I wanted to see but he has his chance again, I hope he does considerably better with this one.

Yes you are right, it was too big a gamble plus the worry of a coalition with the SNP.

I can't believe that we're gonna be putting up with another 5 years of the Tories **** again, seriously everyone moans about how **** they've been yet they're still voting for them in this Election just because of Miliband.

I'm sorry I can't have Joey's dignity on this, it's disgusting that the disabled are gonna be bullied again, the working class are gonna be bullied again, the rich will hardly do anything to put the money back into the country again, the NHS will be privitised again, the NHS will lose more Doctors and Nurses again, The Police will continue to be cut.

Enjoy the voters that voted for them.
I do agree really. They will continue to pursue their elitist trickle-down theories (that simply do not work, but give the illusion of economic growth, hence why silly people have voted for them so strongly), they will continue to force privatisation and to bloat the City and the financial services industry (at the expense of everyone else) and then when - not if, but when - we're hit by recession again, because of that reliance on the financial world and the City, the entire thing will flatline disastrously.

I'm not surprised by the results, not even slightly, the Tories have successfully pushed the propaganda of supposed economic recovery and growth (an illusion that in fact has yet to benefit anyone outside of London) for well over a year now and it was inevitable that their "don't mess up the recovery!" message would resonate. Because people are cowards and fear-based politics work. They just... Do. That's how to win an election in the UK, full stop.

So yeah, not surprised and not even disappointed. My disappointment is still over-ruled by my disappointment that Scotland didn't break away from this madness last summer. I don't "want a labour government" (though I would admittedly prefer one to the Tories), I want to be as far away from the charade of Westminster politics as possible.

Been thinking about you a lot Joey, how disappointed you must be,I have to say,I felt a bit sorry for labour as time went on,they have got hammered, obviously I am happy about the Conservatives doing well,I DO think Labour would have stood a far better chance if Milliband hadn't been at the helm, but it's done now, better luck next time round.Really nice post from you, such a gent,I will be voting for you when you are an MP whatever party you represent as I know you are a fair and caring person, now I hope Cameron doesn't let us down and takes us onwards and upwards,it's been great fun debating in the threads.Hugs xx

He's going, I take little pleasure from that but do think he is right to do so.

I have met him and he always showed genuine concern and appreciation for all party activists and had a good message really, however didn't fully clarify things.
None of them did really,to be fair.

Also, absolutely no one saw the virutal wipeout of the Lib Dems, it was clear they had lost votes but no one saw their loss of seats on that scale and by the margis they lost most of them too.

We can hope, that David Cameron, repeals the fixed term parliament act, which will then let him decide when the next election is again.
It can be that Prime Ministers are caught out, calling elections they think they can win.
I really don't see with such a small majority, where David Cameron will want to be tied to a possible 5 year fixed term now.

I will have a vote as a member who will lead Labour now, so I will wait eagerly to see who throws their hat in the ring this time.

Not really surprised about the Conservative win tbh, but the amount of it is astounding, considering the fact that everyone predicted that they would fell short of the required seats.

I wonder what was the sole reason this happened?

Safe choice and/or the desire to be with the winning team? SNPīs rise and Labourīs demise in Scotland? Liberalīs absolute decimation? Millibandīs personality? Desire to get a stable government with no chance of it falling, no matter what the cost?

Just to be clear iīm not on either side atm iīm just curious.

Fun fact: The same thing (Left parties falling) happened on our elections too.

I was going to the District count today but I'm too tired. I'm just going to laze around. 2 hours rest is not enough arista, you'll make yourself ill.
