I think it is a mixture of him realising she's using him and also him trying to distance himself as a game player to further himself in the series. He will know that if he stays close to Jade too much then he will be dragged down along with her. I doubt he wants to be a target any time soon so he has had to change tactics to stay in there as a housemate

Nick is a cringe-making saddo, love- struck, little boy who has never been as close to pussy since a cat sat on his lap. The abominable self-deluder that is Jade is using him as a crutch and to bolster her ego, and he is well aware of it but grateful, because he at least gets to receive a bit of female attention - even if it is mild and forced.
