View Full Version : Should understated acts get more appreciation on this show?

When I mean understated I mean acts that don't scream every note at the audience, not just being a dancer, and not just being a joke act, but I mean acts (it can be for whatever genre) just going out there stripped back, with a modern song , and just singing in a normal manner.

Does anybody else feel like that anyone that tries to be understated on this show always ends up controversial and gets branded boring by the detractors or is it just me that's noticed this? I just don't get why everything has to be so in your face on this show when it doesn't have to be on any other Talent Show that I've seen, it's just really strange to me.

What does everyone else think?

Nearly every winner has been a bland performer

Ben won over Fleur, Joe over Olly, Matt Cardle over Cher, The bland performers usually win over exciting ones

Ben and Matt go into the shouty category.

And Olly was bland himself so Joe probably just became a rebel vote to stop him.

She's probably in constant orgasm, she pops out so many sprogs.

As much as I like Matt Cardle I felt he was way too predicable(obvious winner) and just a man who sings well, Rebecca Ferguson had such a beautiful recording voice and was different to any other contestant the XF has had.

Completley agree apart from the bit abouy liking him. There were 8/9 finalists I would have rather won over him that year

He does have pitching problems in that performance, if you compare that to Aiden's best, Cher's best, Paije's best, and hell even Rebecca's best when they rarely came around for her, they was all much stronger performances than Matt's so called best that you've put up because they had better control of their vocals.

Oh and to Jordan and to Lewis111, when does understated equal bland? You kind of proved my point without even realising it.

But yes TXF has mostly **** winners, but mainly because they hit either the shouty category, or that one of dance routine winner with Little Mix.

The only understated winners that we've had win and they're my two favourite winners because of it are Leona and James.

Did Little Mix have many "routines" on X Factor?

Did Little Mix have many "routines" on X Factor?

Not as many as Olly Murs or some of the newer series acts, but them and Marcus did help make the series go into the horrible direction that it's going into now.

I think you been underrated, understated means presented in a subtle and effective way.

But so far I've liked the winners apart from James. I liked his early competition performances but the lives weren't as good I don't think.

That's my meaning though.

They present themselves in a subtle but effective way, but they for some reason never get the votes to win (so yes you're right that it could also mean underrated) but they're still good acts that sing in a subtle manner.

Yeah, I liked the guy who knew Olly, but he shouldn't have mentioned that he did.

That guy was an example of bad understated though imo, he couldn't sing either song and I like both songs.
