Following the news that Tom Bleasby has withdrawn from The X Factor, the star has revealed he never felt "vocally ready" to progress further in the competition.

During our exclusive interview with Tom, the 19-year old also praises mentor Nick Grimshaw, as well as confessing who he's now backing for X Factor glory.

Check out our full interview below...
Tom – we’re sorry to hear about your departure from the The X Factor, it must have been a difficult decision to make?

It was a tough decision; I think I really discovered it at the 6 Chair Challenge. I just don’t know if I felt vocally ready to take on the competition and the pressure. I’m quite a relatively new singer, back in March, I was singing in my bedroom, so I’ve never took to live performing very well. I’m still discovering myself and in the competition, there are some amazing singers and I feel like I need more time to get better myself, as I don’t feel like I’m strong enough.

Moving forward, without being 100% would have been selfish on my part because I would have stopped someone else who was at 100% vocally from going further in the competition. Hopefully given time, I could get there with more time to grow artistically and vocally.

What was it like having Nick Grimshaw as a mentor?

Nick was incredible, he was so supportive and for him to give me a chair was a huge boost of faith. It was just an amazing feeling but I was still having the doubts about myself and I didn’t want to be in the competition when I was having those doubts because I would have just sunk. Nick is a fantastic mentor and I really want to thank him for all his support.

Seeing as the public were such strong supporters of you during the 6 Chair Challenge, do you have a message for your fans?

I want to thank everybody who did support me, the entire audience at the 6 Chair Challenge, all the people all over Britain who were watching the 6 Chair Challenge at home and sending me kind messages of support. I want to thank them and I want them to know it’s not the end. Fingers crossed, I’ve got to work on myself and find where I really want to go and and get stronger and stronger and I hope they will follow me.

What has been your personal highlight through this whole process?

My highlight was definitely my first audition when Rita and Nick gave me a standing ovation in front of the whole of Wembley Arena. That was the highlight of my career so far, that was like the first validation that I’d had. It was a beautiful moment.

Who are you backing now you’ve decided to withdraw from the competition?

I’m rooting for Ché (Chesterman) and Josh Daniel. They are both really genuine people, really great and their talent speaks for themselves – they’ve got incredible voices.

What does the future hold for you?

For me right now, I’m just going to be exploring different avenues, seeing where I want to take myself musically, maybe try writing a few songs – see what happens. Nothing is set in stone, but I had to make this decision, it was a hard decision but it had to be done. I had to follow what I believed in. I had to follow my heart.

Final thoughts?

This isn’t the end, it’s just a new beginning. It just wasn’t right for me at this time. Things change and I really appreciate the opportunity from The X Factor – it was a really big deal and the fact that I was able to come on the show and sing, it was an incredible experience.

So he bottled it then. He knew he wasn't good enough to get through so tried to save face.

He'll get what he wanted from it though, a flop Mother's day album and a permanent residence at a Butlin's resort.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with Mock, Papsidero is the last thing this show needs, he's awful, not even because he's a full on walking gimmick.

His a perfect example of why this show is dying.

What would you think of him if he just stood there and sang? His clearly not confident that he'd be good hence the angel wings.

And I normally would like him more if the calibre of contestants was higher elsewhere, and less gimmicky, we don't need to add another one on top that makes Fleur East look stripped back last year.

Don't think he is any good. His voice sounds screechy and false.

Jack_
12-10-2015, 11:36 PM
I'm astounded by the hate this guy has received - I assume it's because his voice isn't ~normal~ but maybe it's just me but I quite enjoy it when someone's voice is out of the ordinary...there's nothing worse than a carbon copy of the latest low rent pub singer

I get the 'boring' accusations but give me a bore with an intriguing voice over a bore with a bog standard voice any day

The guy who wore all the ~crazy~ costumes needs to be brought back, should never have gotten rid of him over some of the bores sat on those chairs :idc:

Mock, the show isn't dying because of gimmicky acts, it's dying because the producers haven't got a braincell between them. Just look at the schedule for a start

Shaun

His voice wasn't that extraordinary tbh Jack_, it was just another Bronski Beat.

If they turned it back to the series 6 style where there was only Jedward and Olly that was gimmicky acts I bet that the ratings would go back up a couple of million viewers which is all the difference for it to get out of the red and into the black so to say.

Edit... It's not to say that there isn't other problems with the show as there clearly is, but I bet that's the biggest bug to bare for most of the general public and I can't say that I blame them.

The show also needs to learn to respect peoples votes more as well.

Babayaro.
13-10-2015, 08:43 AM
Don't get me wrong, I can't really stand novelty acts most of the time but I just think there's bigger problems at the moment. Also, you found Olly gimmicky? I've never heard that from anyone

He got a bad edit, every time someone hit a nice note, the camera would pan to his disappointed face. Also he was the only one not shown standing for Seann. Wonder if that had anything to do with it..

Well someone that doesn't rely on their vocals at all on a singing show (or so it pretends to be) then I class them as a gimmicky act, this includes joke acts, shouters, and dancers.

GOOD Nick should never of brought him back how ungrateful and spiteful to take someone else seat knowing fair well you had no plans to go to the next stage.

I think Papasiedo or Ollie should get the chair.

Also Mason has no chance it was a set up all along and he played his part in the publicity stunt.

Seann and Che have obvious made live shows and its obviously out of Josh or Simon for the last spot.

Yeah, I don't actually expect whoever returns to win (or to even make the live shows tbh), but anyone other than Nathaniel would just leave a bad taste on the simple basis of fairness.
