Why does Cbb do so much better than bbuk in the summer these days

I had a thought about this. I don't know whether this is correct or not, but I think that mentally, people prefer to watch celebrities go into BB, or jungle etc, rather than people they don't really know about. People love celebrity culture and this country is obsessed with it, I think thats why CBB, Jungle, Strictly etc do so well, to be honest I couldn't see a civilian version of jungle doing well in the long run.

Take 10,000BC for example, maybe, just maybe if it was celebrities rather than civilians, it would attract more people to watch.

This series is doing really well! I hope the ratings continue to grow, it makes me think why do we have a CBB in the summer?! At first it wasn't too bad for C5 but now it's not doing them any favours i think..

summer in red
winter in blue

CBB8 - 2.8
CBB9 - 2.6 -0.2
CBB10 - 2.2 -0.4
CBB11 - 2.8 +0.6
CBB12 - 2.3 -0.5
CBB13 - 3.1 +0.8
CBB14 - 2.1 -1.0
CBB15 - 3.1 +1.0
CBB16 - 1.9 -1.2
CBB17 (as it stands officially atm. It's still growing too - 2.64 +0.7

Seems to be a pattern, when people moan online, ratings go up. Odd. :joker:

There should be quite a few 3m+ officials with the week we have had in the last 10 days. You saw the officials released on Monday, yes?

I agree with the nominations but theres been no twists this series really.

Anyway tonight should bring in alot of viewers if Live Feed is anything to go by there was a huge argument and security were called in.

Take 10,000BC for example, maybe, just maybe if it was celebrities rather than civilians, it would attract more people to watch.

I think it's a lot simpiler than that as once upon a time regular BB got far more viewers than the celebrity one which had huge names in those days! It's just because every series of cbb especially the winter ones since 2014 just happen to be good while imo the only good normal bb for c5 was 2013 and that would still rank below most cbb's from recent years.

Also I think that normal bb is a dead format. Everyone knows that it's not as good as it used to be and it just becomes worse every year. There was a similar feeling with cbb up until cbb13 where bb found its mojo back under a new platform. To most people, it's like normal big brother doesn't even exist like today people would say "do you watch celebrity big brother?" But in 2006 when cbb was on it would still be "do you watch big brother?" They were the same show in channel 4 days and now there basically 2 different ones.

I contacted someone who works at Broadcast for the ratings as they didn't include what CBB got on their site, and with Digital Spy not doing ratings anymore i had to ask.

The person was very quick and helpful, nice to know people are out there who are willing to help out, so if anyone wanted to know...

I posted it above.

2.5m (11.3%). The person who writes up the articles on Broadcast emailed me as it wasn't on the report.

As for last night, it got 2.38m excl +1, so looks to be around 2.7m, so will let you know when i get it.

Not quite, last night got

Channel 5:
Celebrity Big Brother- 2.6m (12.2%)

I thought it would have been 2.7m but looking at that share it's the highest of the series, just behind launch and the interview of Megan last Friday which got 13%. So not many people watching TV last night.

About tonight, with the people up i was sure it would be at least 2.8m, but Manchester United are playing in the FA Cup tonight so that will dent it... also the interview may not do great because the over hyped Zayn from 1D is appearing on Graham Norton, his first interview since leaving. Others include Will Smith, Ryan Reynolds, Toby Jones and Catherine Zeta Jones... so one of the best lineups in ages imo.

That's without +1.

So guessing around 2.6m for the first show. Fantastic for the 2nd show share. 4th consecutive climb for a Friday eviction interview.

Don't know if we will get any +1 ratings until Monday to be honest.

Did what happen? I'm talking about how the eviction interview has increased as time goes by.

For example, these are the evictions that fell on a Friday excl +1...

Winstons Eviction Interview- 1.55m
Kristina's Interview- 1.65m
Megan's Interview- 2.00m
Jeremy's Interview- 2.14m

I think people would care more if they have a wider range of characters and ages, rather the young attractive successful type. They need to stop meddling with the show and stop having favourites.

It's gone from 'Who Wins? You Decide!' to 'Who wins? I dunno, whoever the producers let make the final?'

Welp this is honestly so true. Winning the show/staying in the house is purely based on luck on who gets hit with a twist and who doesn't.

Celebrity Big Brother - 2.5m/10.2%

I expected a 2.6m but still that will be around 3m officially. A lot of this weeks shows should be in the 2.9-3.0m area officially.

The way it's going I think we are looking at an official average of 2.8m which would be on par with CBB8 and CBB11, and higher than CBB9... and obviously higher than the summer series.. CBB10, CBB12, CBB14 and CBB16.

Jake.
03-02-2016, 04:52 PM
Good enough average if that's how it plays out. After a lower launch/first week, it's picked up decently in the same kind of vein as BB14

Camila’s Kids Company: the Inside Story- 2.4m (11.5%)

BBC2:

ITV:
Midsomer Murders- 5m (23%)

Channel 4:

24 Hours in A&E- 2.1m (10.3%)

Channel 5:

Celebrity Big Brother- 2.4m (11.7%)

Comedy Central:
Drunk History- 145,000 (0.9%) *Series High

It's taken a hit the last 3 days, BUT the share is higher than most of the shares when it was getting 2.7m, so there wasn't many people watching TV last night compared to other nights. It was the same rating as 9pm on BBC1 which followed a show that got 6m! So, CBB was only behind Midsomer Murders last night at 9pm.

2.6m for the final means it will probably get around 3.1m once the officials are in which is more than CBB15's final last year.

That 3.3m rating for Jeremy's eviction is impressive.

I'm kinda annoyed that the ratings increased once the show stopped being good imo. Whereas the first two weeks didn't rate as well but were much more enjoyable.

M - 3.04m (2.5m)
T - 2.97m (2.6m)
W - 3.11m (2.5m)
T - 3.21m (2.61m)
F - 3.25m (2.38m)
F - 3.04m (2.14m)
S - 2.39m* (1.80m)
S - 3.32m (2.66m)

Those are incredible increases for Friday and fantastic for Sunday and most days really!

I think judging by the overnights (even though overnights are getting less important due to huge timeshifts now) that the Jeremy/Steph thing actually intrigued people. Note how the ratings were at their best DURING their thing (despite people moaning about how dull it was), and then watch how ratings slightly went down when Jeremy was evicted.

If you take out the Saturday ratings, the series would have had a 3m official.

The final probably won't add much. People will just hear about who finished where and won't be too interested in seeing it.

I actually think this. Finals don't add much.

CBB15 final got a 2.71m overnight and a 3.03m.

We'll see, do you think it will beat 3.03m?

I also agree with the overnight figure probably dropped after Tiffany was evicted (not just because she was my fave but because i saw a lot of comments saying that), HOWEVER, Broadcast did say that it did peak at over 2.9m as Scotty was crowned.

The biggest thing to be impressed with is the Friday shows, first and interview. People at the start moaned about how late it was, but lets look at the increases....

1st week- 2.29m and 2.32m
2nd week- 2.91m and 2.13m (that was a decrease though)
3rd week- 2.95m and 2.68m
4th week- 3.25m and 3.04m

The 9pm show increased almost 1m in 4 weeks, the interviews grew 720,000.

Did Broadcast publish an audience share % including +1 for the final?

13.5%.

But the share for the peak was more impressive...

The stripped Endemol format, which was won by Geordie Shore star Scotty T, peaked with 2.9m (17%) at 10.17pm.

Also, in SHARE it beat CBB15's final:

While it was well ahead of the 1.7m (9.5%) who watched former The Apprentice candidate triumph in September, it was unable to outperform the 2.7m (12.3%) who watched Katie Price’s victory 12 months ago.

After launching on 5 January with a series high of 2.9m (13.9%), it went on to entertain a series average of 2.4m (10.9%).

So the final was only 0.4% below the launch share. But was 1.2% UP on CBB15's final in share.

It's really sad the public are interested boring showmances.

They got a ridiculous amount of press attention tbh.

Glad to think CBB will still be on the telly regardless of BB

We can only but hope they alter the format soon

There's potential for even higher viewers imo.

Officials should be out over the next 2 hours. We'll see how the final did but not expecting anything big. Maybe 3.1m.

Very annoying.

The bad thing is, i don't think we will EVER get them now because of apparently C5 missing some sort of deadline, leading to BARB not releasing any C5 figures.

Silly from C5 considering it was a very big week for them!

They've been released, I'm a little too busy to post them!

But the series is averaging 2.8M now the latest officials are in.
