View Full Version : Have you cancelled plans due to the Paris bombings?

I can understand people not wanting to travel to Paris at the moment, and school trips to France being cancelled, but there also seems to be a lot of people not wanting to go into London, I heard several callers to a radio station this morning say this as well as a women on the news last night though she seemed to think she is perfectly safe at some market in Birmingham where she was interviewed :umm2: Personally I will go about my business as normal as I think an attack can be carried out anywhere and I'm not about to restrict what I do, so have you cancelled plans?

No, (not that I had any) I'd imagine now is probably a safer time to go because everyone is much more vigilant , security would be everyone's top priority
Niamh.
20-11-2015, 01:40 PM
No but I wasn't going anywhere anyway. My nephew and his g/f are supposed to be going to Paris next weekend though and my sister in law is trying to get him to cancel
I was in London at the time the tubes were hit by bombs. Going to London on the days that followed the attack was a very surreal experience, people were literally pretty close to crapping it.
If the trips are unnecessary, I wouldn't be doing them at the present time.
Niamh.

oh wow scary
I wasn't going anywhere really but we have been planning on going to Edinburgh Christmas Markets this weekend, these are huge and very crowded and I'll be honest and say that thoughts did enter my head about how that's exactly the kind of place that could be a target for attack.
Then I suppose that kind of thing is exactly what these terrorists want.

both my girls were in London duing 7/7 and were about to go on the tube when I first heard about a bus bomb so i quickly phoned the in-laws and got my Father-in-law.
They had actually lefty the house but then half way to the tube my FIL realised he had left his wallet so ran back, he arrived just as I called and I was able to stop them getting on a tube for central london!

No, still planning on going ahead with travelling again in Jan/Feb (despite every family member trying to get me to change my mind).
It's terrible what is happening everywhere now but you have to think about the millions of people that do go to these major cities and countries and return home safely rather than the very small percentage that don't. If you're going to live life paranoid about every little thing then you won't end up doing much at all. That said, I'd like to think I'll be a lot more aware of my surroundings from now on.

Oh she wasn't going anyway, there's only about 30 of them going out of about 120. She wasn't bothered about this one, she'd rather do the 4th year trip to Italy which is next year (thankfully because I probably would want it cancelled if she was due to go on it)

I must admit until last September, I was terrified of tubes, every time I rode one all I could think of was 7/7, I forced myself to ride tubes for 2 hours when I had a spare few hours to get use to them, next time I'm there in 12 days, I'm going to be awful again, I'll just have to hope it's all okay (plus I'm seeing my favourite band on this planet so it'll be worth it!)

I work in central London so I don't have much choice.
I have just had to book a flight to Bulgaria and I found myself pausing over whether or not to fly with Turkish Air, which is more convenient for me than Austrian air. I decided to take the safer option and fly with AA.
Edited because my grammar and spelling is always a mess!

I've heard loads of people saying they won't go to the Trafford Centre near me (which I've jumped on board with, god awful place), and the Manchester Christmas Markets have been quieter than usual but I wouldn't want things that are happening to make me live in fear. My brother is a Pilot and was flying during 9/11 and that was frightening but more so for us waiting for him to contact home than for him whilst flying, he can't allow himself to get spooked I gues

I wouldn't to be honest Niamh , I am quite cautious like that , afterall we may say it doesn't happen to us ,but it happens to SOMEONE and who's to say that SOMEONE will never be us or our loved ones , I'de rather be a live coward than a dead hero. I feel quite safe in London to be honest. It's well protected. I can't just sit at home and do nothing. Having said that I'm very much aware that we live in terror. Anything could happen at anytime in any place. It's not a good feeling.

We have a giant ass shopping centre right next to us so I'd go there regardless. I don't think we're really at risk from terrorists where we live in all honesty. I live about 45 minutes away from Birmingham so I imagine that would be a bigger target so i'm not worried at all going about my daily business.

Too true, but best to stay as safe as possible, especially with kids, lets hope we get on top of things before they get any worse.
...no, we haven't booked yet but planned to go to Paris around February/half term next year and still will go...the hotel that we usually stay at is only a few hundred yards from some of the brutal killings so the only change will be, that this attack has happened and that inevitably, it'll feel sad and solemn ...but more sad I think, if the beauty and people of Paris were not visited and appreciated ....

No. We were planning on going to Turkey next year though which has now changed. I would take risks with myself no bother, especially with how cheap some places are right now, but I don't feel right risking the kids. I know the chance of something happening is very small, but it is a very real risk and I just can't do it.
We have also recently left the kids at home with grandma when we went to the metrocentre as Gav has it in his head that London won't be hit..it will be elsewhere, and Metro is evacuated for bomb threats all the time :S

Not made any plans personally as I don't get out much.
I have asked daughter to keep away from London and when she comes Back home up North to stay away from the Metro.
But in reality you have to try and lead as normal a life as possible or the bstds have won.
At 13:44hrs on Saturday, 21 November, officers stopped a vehicle on Blackfriars Road at the junction with Cambridge Circus.
The occupants of the vehicle - three men - were arrested.
Local road closures are in place.
Enquires continue.

Okay so last weekend some girlfriends and I went to the Christmas Market in York, the place was heaving pubs and restaurants full, some police presence in the station and in the market itself.
Last night went to the illusionists in London with the family, we went for a meal in a half empty restaurant and got a seat in the window which other diners must have declined :worry: the theatre did a bag search (which is new) but there were rows of empty seats which is pretty unusual for a show with a short run, on the way home on the tube my son overheard a white man telling an Asian man not to go to Leicester Square or Oxford Circus today or tomorrow but then he was also telling him about auditioning for the X factor so on balance we felt he was just nervy rather than had any intelligence :worry:
