I think that reality TV has got to a stage now that almost nothing will shock us and it is almost at its peak and will soon be on a slow decline.
We tune in to see the drama unfold and to see who will take it to the next level.
Tonight we saw them calling each other ***** more than once in an attempt to shock us.
We heard a close to the bone "ghetto" comment which was imo as close to racism as you could get without actually getting there.
We saw weight slurs and the craziest drunken display ever aired on British television.
These were all attempts to 'take it to the next level' and keep us interested. Each reality celeb trying to make a name for themself.
We are almost over saturated with 'drama' now.It can't get much worse and i think in the next five to ten years we will be bored of it because it can't get much more extreme without becoming criminal.Somebody is going to have to get arrested live on TV if it goes much further.
Don't get me wrong i enjoy it as much as the next person but i think reality TV has almost had its day.

The only reality star not playing up is the original HBIC

Is calling people '*****' really shocking though? It seems to be a regular occurrence at my school.

Yes it was at mine too.I'd say on TV it was though. Not now.The word was very very rarely used on Television in the past.Only really in films and on late night TV.I remember Jonathan Ross said it a few years back and it was quite shocking for television at the time.

As an aside its considered offensive cause its quite particular in how it sounds (short abrupt harsh) and dates back to the anglo saxons like all the best naughty words :)

Interesting post. I also enjoy a good argument but I'm getting bored with the half manufactured ones which is what Tiff's and Megan's are really. They are used to screeching and yelling and taking offence at the drop of a hat because that is what they do in their respective reality shows. So it's all just a bit of re - cycling for them. I long for a good old 'proper' argument this series involving HM's that don't do it for a living and are not just cashing in on their area of 'expertise'.

I get what you're saying but to be honest, I think the same sort of thing was said regrading RTV years ago, about if being in decline and not lasting much longer, so I'm not sure what to think. I think it probably reached it's peak a long time ago and has just been plateauing since. I agree it can't really go anywhere new, but I think there'll still a big enough thirst for what we're currently getting for it to last a while longer.
